...so should we try and trade Norris and get a more team friendly player in the backcourt? I like Moochie as much as anyone because he is a gamer that can hurt the opposing team, but our backcourt as a whole does dominate the ball too much. I heard a stat that Mobley and Francis(SG/PG) combine for over 60% of the Rockets offense and that doesn't change much when Moochie is on the floor. What I am suggesting is possibly trying to get someone that gets the team more involved when either Mobley and/or Francis are not on the court.
I've been saying that Moochie isn't what we need for the better part of a year now. On defense, Moochie is terrible, and there's not even really a question about that. It's exposed even more when he's in the game. when he's in the game with Steve and Cuttino. When we go 3 guard, Francis and Mobley are forced to give up a lot of size at the 2/3, so having a PG that is small and can't defend just further compounds problems-especially with a young and foul prone front court forced to compensate for that. On offense he's not a true passer. He's not a great outside shooter, and his isos ball domination don't promote player involvement. He's not Francis or Mobley; he's not capable of lighting people up for 30 any given game even if he were given. We DO need someone with experience, however. We can't afford to go with Tito as the primary backup. Maybe when Tito gets a couple of years under his belt he'll make a fine backup PG. I don't know who we'd be able to get that could fill the backup PG role. A guy that comes to mind would be Brevin Knight, excellent passer, and good defender, though he's even smaller than Moochie.
I have comments on these two sentences: 1) Moochie leads the team in steals. In fact, he has more than twice the next leading stat holder. Not that this stat alone makes him a great defender, but it's enough to question your statement. 2) where else would it be exposed?
