    http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2005-05-23/09281574526.shtml

It's a Sina article so it comes with the usual caveats...

Most of the article is about some event for Yao's restaurant that Yao had to make an appearance at. Other than that, it mentioned the following:

    - Date for Yao's surgery in San Francisco has not been set yet. So he's just waiting and relaxing. He gained more than 10 pounds since the end of the season.

    - Other than regular checkups for his health, he's also working out at Toyota Center nearly everyday. He's running to keep in shape and also practicing shooting. He's started practicing 3-pointers.

    - Yao says that Charlie Ward is the only one that's working out more than he is.

    - The reporter says that Yao practicing 3-pointers maybe a sign that Yao will have a greater range to operate on offense next season. He says that Yao mentioned to JVG before that some times he'd like to be able to operate a little bit farther out from the basket on offense. Yao practicing 3's maybe a sign that his wish has been granted.

A couple other thing that I forgot to mention:

    - The weight Yao gained is fat. According to the reporter, Yao's face already looks chubbier than before.

    - At the beginning of the article, it mentions that the thing that makes Yao the happiest is to not have to deal with the media all the time so he can have some quiet time to relax. Not sure if this reporter got the hint.

That's great that Yao is getting more and more range. Just makes him that much more deadly. The only problem is, without Yao, there's no rebounder in the middle to get an offensive rebound.

If only they played Yao and Deke at the same time. They can move Yao to SF for some 3 point shooting. Who's going to block his shot? :D :D :D

Yes, it is good that Yao is working but he has to watch out his diet. But i like the fact that he's working on his three point shot, he could use it just in case the shot clock i winding down or something...

I think if Yao shoots at 100% from downtown, then we don't need to worry about the offensive rebound... do you agree?

yao should work on his quicks and his ballhandling to go along with his 3 point shot. then we could put him at pg and he'd always have a completely unchallenged trey. :D

I was never one to get up in arms about Eddie's perimeter shooting, but I'm not thrilled to hear that Yao's practicing 3-pointers. I don't want to blow it out of proportion since I'm sure his focus is on other things, but three-point shooting really is the last thing he should be working on. I think practicing three-point shooting for Yao is the equivalent of practicing half-court threes for guards. Possibly useful for very rare situations, but not worth practicing at the expense of most other parts of one's game.

Why couldn't Yao's idol be Dream instead of Sabonis?

Yao for three is a high percentage shot if you need one at the end. Nobody is gonna guard that I can assure you.

Haha so basically Yao is becoming a ****** who plans to camp on the 3pt line next season. :D

But seriously, I cant imagine why Yao would be practicing 3pters...he doesnt expect to shoot 3s during the regular season does he?

I think it's great that Yao is recovering from the ankle and elbow, getting his J back.It is the extra weight that excites me though.Hopefully this is the beginning of him putting on much more through lifting weights and pounding cheeseburgers/ steaks in Houston during the Summer.Having Yao carry 15 -20 extra Lbs. next year will help his strength in the low post, giving him the ability to bang down low and post up w/the power game. And that will open up EVERYTHING for this team.If he doesn't have to keep up with that insane schedule set by the CNT,he should bully up during the Summer and we will finally see a dramatic difference.

Guys, this is great. Lob it into the post for Wesley, he backs down his man, then dishes out to Yao for the trey. Money!

I've peeked in on Yao's workouts - he's not shooting three pointers. It's probably one of his exaggerations - he is, however, working a lot on pick and pop situations and taking 20-22 footers.

Out of curiosity, how are you able to watch Yao workout?

well, when I walk by the main court on the way to lunch, there's a 7'6" guy shooting 20 footers with Coach Thibodeau and a ball boy rebounding, I stop and watch for 20 seconds before hunger pushes me out the door.

I would prefer Yao to get his rest, but maintain a conditioning schedule. I would much rather see a lean, muscular Yao than a fat slow Yao that shoots from the outside.

Great, just as everyone wishing Yao to do better in rebounding, there he is wanting futher away from the basket. I can't imagine this, TMac penetrates, dishes out to Yao for a 3 pointer. Boy what a scene;)
