http://t.sina.com.cn/1156966391/3f4dwyt6Kj As you know Scola is in China right now. He told Su Qun ( a well-known commentator here) over dinner that he wanted to stay a Rocket and he thought he would re-sign with Houston. This could mean nothing but it's still good to hear it from the player himself. Viva Scola.
A no- brainer. With Yao’s health in question and the uncertainty in free agency, Morey is not going to let Scola get away. The Scola trade is one of the best moves Morey ever made. Hopefully he can work his magic again this summer and pry Tiago Splitter out of Spain. A reunion of Scola and Splitter in the NBA would be fantastic.
Scola needs to be back here. That 2 month period where he got all the burn after the Landry deal really sold me.
Scola makes much more money as a Rocket than he would be able to elsewhere. Why, the Rockets are the reason he's even in China to begin with! Shoe contracts, other endorsement deals, he's an international icon, having ties to South America, Europe, North America, and now Asia under his belt. Why would he ever want to leave? And from a fan's perspective, I love him because he's the closest thing I see in today's NBA to the kind of footwork Olajuwon used to dazzle us with. Still way off of course, but no one else comes close in my book. His mastery of the pivot is commendable.
way too early to be sure of anything. If some team is willing to offer him 10-12 mill per year, I think he's gone.
Not if Mr. Chow's in town. Scola is smart enough to not piss off 3 billion Chinese. He might be able bully the first wave, but eventually he would tire.
He better be back. He is the core of our team without a superstar. Plus, you don't give up a forward with his endurance and skill set for nothing. Pay the man his dough.
You are correct here on your assessment of Scola's moves. I wish Scola could work with the Dream because he is so close on making the moves that Dream use to make, must be the soccer background.
Scola fits this team a lot better than Bosh would, IMO. Scola is used to being a third option, he's a high percentage shooter, a solid passer and a great rebounder. I'm really worried how Bosh - assuming Houston is on his radar at all - would fit in. He' s a guy who needs touches to be effective, so how's he going to be happy with Yao and Martin needing a healthy amount of shots as well, not to mention Brooks as well.
I wonder what kind of money Scola wants vs. what we want to give him vs. what he can get from other teams. His production would indicate we couldn't really afford him, except he's older, there are a lot of free agents, and he doesn't really seem to have that much respect around the league. To put in perspective: Scola 16 pts, 8.6 rebounds, 51% FG%, in 32 minutes at age 30. with a 17 PER and yet to miss a game in 3 years. vs. Carlos Boozer 20 pts. 11 rebounds, 56% FG% in 34 minutes at age 28, with a 21 PER and 64 games missed in 7 years. Given that neither player is known for great defense, you'd think at the very least some teams would look at adding Scola as a poor man's Boozer. For instance, if Miami signed Wade and Lebron, they could have enough left over for Scola. I think the same reasoning would apply to New York (assuming Lee would also command a bigger payday than Scola). Chicago could possibly look to sign him as a low post presence and add Johnson for less than the max (Rose, JJ, Deng, Scola, and Noah would be a pretty solid starting 5). Anyway, I haven't heard his name in the mix for any of these teams and I hope he isn't. Makes you wonder though.
