I have 2 pair of speakers that I want to connect to one set of outputs on the receiver. The receiver has enough juice to drive all 4, but can I smply connect both pairs to the jacks? Does it affect the ohm rating?

Impedence (ohms) depend on both the amp and the speakers. Speakers determine how much the amp is driven.

If you have a pair of 8 ohm speakers running on an 4 ohm amp, the amp will be under powered. If you run 4 ohm speakers on an 8 ohm amp, you will over power the amp.

What are the ratings of the speakers and the amp?

The receiver actually allows me to modify its setting to 4 or 6; the speakers are 8.

I was wondering if the speakers' ohm ratings would change if I added an additional pair of speakers to the same output jacks that the first pair of speakers uses? Or if there are any other problems when doing that, as long as you have enough juice (the receiver pumps 100 watts/channel).

Connecting two pairs of 8 ohm speakers will drop the impedence to around 4 ohms. If your amp can handle the load, I think you should be ok. Like Jeff said, however, you will likely be underpowered, though (as far as wattage delivered to each speaker).

    Thanks guys.

I'll set the receiver to 4 ohms and see if it can drive them.
