Try to actually put yourself in management's position, and try to be as objective as possible. Remember that even if you cut him you have to pay him...and pay whoever takes his place. So don't just go on your rage...but then again, I'm sure management is human too.

I assume we have alternatives at the point with SF, Cat, and some of the training camp guys showing some flashes( enough to be given a long term contract by Rudy and Dawson), that Moochie is redundant.
Also, after we cut our losses with Rice, what's the difference between Moochie and Rice? Are we so full of pride we can't admit we made multiple mistakes?

Nah...if he's gonna count against the cap it would be best to keep him on the DL for the whole season as a just-in-case. Mike Wilks is my new man though, just from what I've heard.

Then, if a trade comes up, try and throw him in instead of using up that exception.

    Yes, in a heartbeat.

But it's not just Moochie, I have a gut felling that Francis won't be in a Rockets uni by seasons end. :(

I hate to say that, but it's true. The interview he had with Coop the other night proved it. Francis is not happy in Houston. You can tell by his body language, and by some of the things he said. He not only bought a new house in D.C., he seems to spend most of his time in the off season there also.

I'll start another thread later, because there is alot this club should be worried about. #1 Steve Francis

This club has no reason to worry about Francis since he is under contract for the next 6 or 7 years. Francis will play his best and if he does get trade then it will be for value and not scrubs.

Just in case what, in case we need another defensive matador to go out and screw up the offense and turn the ball over while Steve is not on the floor?. No way cut him loose. He is another in a long line of RT's feel good, no talent role players. Moochie must die!

Okay, but I'd have to admit he's better than 90% of the crap players that you can pick up when you catch some injuries midseason.

there has to be a team out there that will take him off our hands.

I say we trade him, and trade him for basicly a ham sandwich.

If we can get some player that costs a bit more, but for a few less years i say do it. even if this other player sucks. Hell i wish there was a way top package him with rice. But there has to be a team who really needs a PG, and Mooch can be an ok PG on a diff team. just not on this team. I still like the little guy though

cutting an expensive player is never an option. there is no gain in it in any way

    ... Norris signed a 6-year contract worth $22,700,000.00 on Oct 9, 2001. Will be a free Agent in 2007.

    2001-02 $3,600,000 - done!

    2002-03 $3,600,000 - done!

    2003-04 $3,600,000 - err...

    2004-05 $3,600,000

    2005-06 $3,950,000

    2006-07 $4,300,000

No. Too many years, and we don't need that 15th roster spot for a difference maker. Let mooch earn his money as a cheerleader and baby-kisser. Try to rehabilitate him, like Jeff is doing now. Pounce on any chance to dump him in a trade combo - or for other trash - oh s#@t, look at all that money! No one will ever take that troll unless it's with Francis. Relax, relax - maybe someone else wants to dump desperately, too.

man pasox, looks like we're on the same page again.

Moochie is not going to make a huge difference on this team whether he is here or not. The same goes for Mike Wilks or whoever the Rockets add as the backup PG.

Sure, I'd trade him if anything worthwhile was thrown on the offering table, but cut him outright? No.

If I could I would. The new pg should be Mike Wilks because he is faster and a better dribbler. Kind of reminds me of that guy from the golden state warriors the short guy.

No. First, we don't need another Matt Maloney hitting the salary cap. Secondly, Moochie attended JVG's voluntary summer camp...his head and heart are in the right place. Lastly, the team will have to pay someone to be the backup PG, why compound the cost by waiving Mooch and paying him for 4 more years while you pay someone else (with no guarantee they will learn the system, play D and/or not get hurt)?

Best case scenario IMO is sign Mike Wilks for 2 years @ ~ $1.3m and let them slug it out for playing time. Steve Francis needs to play fewer minutes, and some will be at SG. We need 2 backup PG's. But we don't need to pay for 3.

I thought I remembered reading here a few months back that we may have an option out of Moochie's contract after 3 or 4 years. Is there anything to that?? (god, I hope so!)

I think we have to keep him until we can toss Mooch into a deal ala us getting stuck with Amaechi. Yes, we probably have and will cut better players to keep him, but I can't see paying Mooch those millions to drink brews and watch the big screen in his living room. Let someone else do it.

The very notion of cutting him this far into his contract is flat out stupid.

Unless he becomes a locker room cancer, the worst that should happen to him is putting him on the ir. Assuming we can't trade him of course.

    Deckard -
It was from a reliable poster, but I can't remember who it was. IIRC, Moochie was supposed to have a "lack of skills" clause on the final two years of his contract. IOW, the Rox have the option on Moochies last 2 contract years. But this was not ever proven...just talked about.

OK, that's what I remembered. There was a whole discussion about the "difference" between a team option and a "lack of skills" clause... that they were different, but basically the same. ;)

Anyone remember who brought it up? It came from someone we pay attention to, if Gater and I are remembering it right. GATER's memory is much better than mine, lol. If anyone is holding out on us about this, you gotta come clean... BBS sanity may be at stake!

(or my sanity, if Mooch keeps playing like this)
