I'm wanting to put together a Web site--nothing fancy, but perhaps more to it than your typical Geocities Web site. I don't really need something as powerful (or as expensive) as Dreamweaver. I'd be looking for a WYSIWYG-type program, although I would like for it allow access to the html code. Know of any good programs? I like how Adobe released Photoshop Elements for people who don't need all the features of Photoshop. I'd like something comparable in a Web site creation program if it's available. You know, what it does, it does well. But not nearly as powerful as something like Dreamweaver.
Do you have a web hosting service or are you using an ISP service such as earthlink? They tend to have some simple stuff. Oftentimes there is freeware and shareware available, especially for the simple stuff you are looking for.
FrontPage and Dreamware are the most simple HTML editor now, u basically don't have to know anything about HTML to use them. But they are kind of expensive.
Yep... download.com has plenty of HTML editors or developer software to download...if you have are serious, then get Frontpage.
I'm going to suggest notepad as well. WYGIWYK What You Get Is What You Know It's always better to learn the basics, and the code that Frontpage turns out is crap.
I concur. Learning HTML is the best way to start out. Once you have reached your limits with notepad, then start looking for other programs, if you even need them. B
I disagree, HTML really is not a programming language, it doesn't have algorithm, you just have to remember all the codes. So why don't use a program that can help you with bulid a website faster without to write those annoying codes? I bulid my first website using notepad back in middle school, and it took me forever to wrote them. And it's really hard to change it once you finish them, you have to go back in line to find the part you want to change. My suggestion is use Dreamware, it's cheap than Frontpage, and it has a better layer function than Frontpage.
Dreamweaver is OK, but at the very least you'd want to amend the code it produces, particularly if you want your site to render nicely on a variety of browsers. Coding by hand isn't difficult, it's just a bit daunting at first. Any good text editor should do. I use BBEdit (I'm on a Mac), and that has basic templates for HTML, so you start with a document that has a <head> and <body>. It also has some fill-in-the-blanks functions that can generate some of the code for you. Particularly if you're doing something simple, it should be too hard, and you'll probably enjoy it. Don't forget you can always open your HTML file in a browser as you go along, to see what it is rendering like.
If you are going to buy any type of webpage software like Flash or Dreamweaver, buy it from http://www.studica.com. Compare the prices between Studica and Amazon. They give you generous student discounts for software. For example, the same Dreamweaver MX for $377 on Amazon is $94 on Studica. If you're not a student, just send in your old college ID (if you still have it) or just take someone elses and paste your picture on it. All you need to do is send a copy and I have never heard anyone having problems doing it. Once you send or fax a copy of the student ID, you can order from Studica.
