Since the new SimCity is less than stellar (at this point), I figured it would be good to look at some city building alternatives. Yes, there are other city builders out there.

Best modern Simcity Alternative: Cities XL 2012:

    Yup.

Also, Tropico and Anno are fairly solid. Cities XL is meh.

I'm eyeballing Tropico 4 and Anno 2070 on Steam. They're both on sale for the next couple of days.

I've had only beginner time with Anno, but it's fairly dense. Kind of one of those games that's a little overwhelming at first. That's the only 'knock' I've had on it so far. (Well that and the crappy Ubi Uplay).

Tropico has a good tutorial and a nice sense of humor.

That's actually a pro in my book; I prefer my building games complicated and deep (and confusing pipe leaks isn't what I'm talking about). $35 for Anno 2070 and all of it's expansions and DLC seems pretty good. $10 for Tropico 4 Steam SE.

Do not buy Cities XL 2012. Its a scam. Every year they release a new "year" and its just the same exact thing with like 20 buildings or so. There are glaring memory leak issues that cannot be fixed because the original developer went out of business and the publishing company can't decipher the original code.

Yeah, it's not really a bad thing IMO either. Anno also hasn't been on sale much, so 35 is a good price.

    Great price for Tropico.

I need some of these games for my mac yo!

But seriously i need to get around installing windows on my macbook, does anyone have any experience with boot camp? The only reason i got this mac is due to my friend letting it go for nearly 700 bucks off retail price (couldn't resist) but so far the gaming library has been subpar.

Pulled the trigger on Anno 2070 Complete Collection. I'll post impressions after I play a bit.

I bought Tropico but couldn't get into it. Need to try it again. The Anno series is pretty good. 2070 was good, but was resource-heavy from what I recall. I never played Cities XL, but it gets average reviews at best.

None of them are really SimCity replacements, though.
