Should we use free agency? If we do, then it's more realistic. But it's also going to cause the big market/small market problems. I'm planning on evening out the markets a bit by bumping every team up to a minimum of $50 million to begin with... although it will fluctuate depending on your success. I guess if everyone really wants to we could completely even out revenues. We could also have a low "money" cap in which excess revenues go to a common pool. Hopefully, I'll have team rosters and info up on the webpage by Friday morning. The game has a wonderful export feature, so you should be able to get any stats you want at any time after I've updated as I'm currently doing. Once you check your team's info, post your rosters in a separate roster thread. Let me know batting order and pitching rotations or if you want to let the computer do it automatically for you. I'll give you guys the site in just a moment.
my team is going to stink regardless of free agency or not, so it does not matter to me how we do it. I do think it if we go the Fa route that it needs to be even though, because it would not be fair or fun for the yankees t al. to outspend everyone every season. CK
id like free agency only if it enables all teams a fair crack by no means to i want to see a real life portait of the expos and twins
Sorry, my original post was inaccurate about the webpage. The game has a neato export feature which has streamlined the process. I'll give you the exact site shortly.
being the marlins i have a surplus of good young pitching i was curious if a matt clement, kevin millar for a good of would interest you
i have plenty of that do you see any guys in my farm system who interest you besides beckett of course
My only question about free agency is does every team have around the same chance of signing a guy? I mean shouldn't the team the player is currently on have a better chance at signing their own players as opposed to someone else yanking them? Is there any place I can go to find out my own answers without feeling like a nuisance by asking you for all of them?
Pete Rose Mobster: 1. I'm going to begin the game with the rosters set at the beginning of the year. Those trades occurred for specific reasons because of developments that may or may not occur in our sim season. If you're in a position where they make sense... make the trades on your own . 2. You can resign your own players during the season. If you piss them off through lowballing them, they'll still become free agents anyway. Some of them will want to if their team loyalty rating is low. But nearly any free agent can be retained without ever going "public" if you're willing to pay enough. Once free agency "begins" the home team may have a very slight advantage if the player is loyal. basically, it's a bad, bad idea to ever let your key players get that far. Although it can be a good strategy for a middle reliever who wants 4m... I've seen these guys get only like 800k in free agency. So if someone wants too much money, it's often a good idea to let them become a free agent, and let them learn the hard way how fair your offer really was. I guess that would work even for a good player that's overvaluing himself... but the idea of losing good players usually makes me so queasy that I cave in .
There are pros and cons for free agency. I could go either way. But if you guys want a realistic Sim of what being a GM is like, free agency is an important part of the game. But I agree with Haven. I think it would work alot better if the low market teams had a minimum salary of say 50 mill. So no teams like the 13mil twins.
