Wife wants to buy a 100% silk, 400 knots per square inch, 6x9 feet rug. Dude says it was made in Kashmir ("it took months").

So what is a good price this rug?

Asking price is $2400, Dude says the rug will easily be worth $10K in 10 years, which I find apocryphal.

I don't know much about rugs but I know good ones do go up in value as they soften up do to normal wear. When it comes down to it, you will never sell your rug so who cares how much it will be worth in 10 years. The question is it worth 2400 bucks to you now.

The rug is worth $240 to me but ... the wife really likes it and we can afford $2400. I just don't want to get taken to the cleaners, since neither the wife or I know anything about "Persian" rugs.
