he played well versus the Serbian team. he ran, blow by defenders, made shots, and was aggressive. if the kings don't want him, we should at least give liu a tryout. a tryout ain't going to hurt right? since we are looking for a pg, might as well have an open eye for potential prospects. liu wei has shown dramatic improvements under Del Harris. having yao's best friend here will help yao out too. he and yao have played together for years. plus, he and Yao has the advantage of speaking chinese and opponents will have no clue what they are talking about. in the future, let's try to draft Yi Jianlian too. he is good. what do you guys think?
I wouldn't be opposed to giving him a shot... if we don't get Daniels or Jones, he may well be a viable backup to Lue. And yeah, I want Yi too, but so do 29 other teams I'm sure...
I surely won't mind if he can generate the SAME kind of stats in NBA like he did in CBA last season. 20 mpg, 19.8 ppg (53% FG%, 36% 3-pointer), 6.2 rpg, 4.5 apg, 3.0 spg, 1.8 topg. But of course, with the full understanding that CBA are way way below the standard of NBA. Liu Wei (24 yrs old, 6ft 3, 190 lb) is fast and agile, with decent ball handling. He has 2 qualities that stand out in CBA : his ability to knock down wide-open shots consistently and the way he crushes the offensive board. He also likes to make unbelievable shots (mostly 3-pointers) when he runs fast breaks. He's not a great leaper, and he could not dunk (Note: he just learned how to dunk last month in Dallas), yet good in his positioning and timing for rebounds (he was amongst the Top 15 rebounders in CBA last season @ 6.2 rpg). However, Liu Wei is rather weak in defense. He also seemed sometimes unable to break full court press, and his decision-making while running as a point guard sometimes left too much to be desired. But who knows ??? He is of similar weight and height as Steve Francis, and also the best buddy of Yao Ming. Maybe a worthwhile trial.
at least he is better than francis and no he does not suck. who knows what his potential might be. heck a lot of ppl thought yao will suck....
haha... good one. Liu Wei isn't that good. Very limited upside... around 25 or so I believe... and guards bloom earlier. But hey... why not? I mean... is he worse than Mike Wilks? NO! plus you need a three point shooter right? Pick up bateer too!
Houston trades: PF Maurice Taylor SF Adrian Griffin 1st Round Pick Houston receives: PG Liu Wei C Menk Bateer PF Yi JiLian Chinese National Team trades: PG Liu Wei C Menk Bateer PF Yi JiLian Chinese Basketball Team receives: PF Maurice Taylor SF Adrian Griffin 1st Round Pick TRADE ACCEPTED Due to ClutchFans.net fans wanting to rid themselves of Maurice Taylor, his contract and his lack of rebounding the Foreign Exchange rule is enforced.
I would do that trade in a heartbeat, just for Yi alone. No matter how old he is (max 20, min 16) he has enough potential to be much better than Mo.
Please!!!! The guy had a short good run in an international game which had no NBA stars save Yao. He played poorly in the second half and will never be good in the NBA. This sounds like the Rockets of old where we liked to sign players who only played well against us, ala Brent Price, Shandon Anderson, et al. Hey there are some great guys that I play pickup games with here in Cali, why don't you scout here too... Give it up! This guy will never be a legitimate NBA player. It's so sad I knew this thread was coming once Liu scored 8 points in the first quarter or whatever it was.
No way he can play in this league, he is not a NBA quality PG. Just look at the players who have dominated guard positions in the CBA last couple of seasons, those are the ones who couldn't even make any team in NBA, but they absolutely dominated guys like Liu. CBA players usually don't play much defense.
Well...while we are at it.... how do you think the chinese national team (of now) would've fared against the pre-Yao rockets (2001)?
Please don't forget there are 4 NBA players in the Serbia & Montenegro roster: Zarko Cabarkapa, Vladimir Radmanovic, Predrag Drobnjak, and Aleksandar Pavlovic. , and if I am not wrong, Liu Wei did not play much in 2H due to reason I'm going to elaborate below. Of course, there is no need to be too optimistic or excited about such tournament. This is exactly what Del Harris said after the loss when he was questioned why he did not play Liu Wei much in 2H, after an excellent 1H. Del said: "He is with a flu' that he had yet to recover from. Even though he played excellent today, and is our engine in 1H, I want him to have sufficient rest for the Olympic. After all, this is only a warm up game and not Olympic. I just want to utilize my bench/reserve players to the maximum such that they can feel what kind of world class opponents they will be facing in the Olympic."
Yeah, let's draft a guy that's been projected as high as the #2 pick when he declares for the draft, especially since we have almost no chance of getting a lottery ball, unless the planes carrying Yao and T-Mac happen to crash into each other.
