Since it appears that Shandon Anderson and Carlos Rodgers won't be back next year, which teams do you think would be a good fit for them and which player or players could we get back in return by trading them?

If Carlos can be waived, then we'll just say good-bye to his salary anyway. If not, send him to Detroit.

Shandon and Cato would fit nicely with their homwtown Hawks; but my fantasy of getting Theo Ratliff in exchange could only happen if Ratliff made noise about not wanting to play there.

Shandon would fit nicely with the Hawks because they need a tall-ish 2 guard on the offensive end to take some of the heat off Terry.

With a healthy, more complete team, the Hawks could become really solid. Not that I care about the team so much, just as an observation.

Charlotte and New Jersey might need two guards.

I always look East in these hypotheticals so that we don't hurt our own playoff hopes.

I would think the Rockets would have a major interest in Theo and I hope they'd include Chris Crawford (great range @ 6-9) in any deal with Atlanta.

Unfortunately, I don't believe Shandon has to help the Rockets (unless it benefits him moneywise), or the Hawks have any interest in Cato (even if we package pick #13).

Why not deal Shandon Anderson (sign and trade) to Atlanta (his home) and our #22 for their pick, assuming they don't hit the #1, #2 or #3 lotto? This way they get a veteran "Jason Richardson" and a first rounder. We use their pick for Diop and get Joe Johnson with our #13. If we really got creative we could then trade Cato and Walt Williams and our #18 to Sacramento, New Jersey, Cleveland, Detroit or Boston to get a Griffin, Battier, Bradley or Woods/Haywood (the latter to get us through the Diop growing period).

Writesmart, I don't think The Hawks are dumb.I doubt it very seriously if they would want Anderson and the 22nd pick for their own first round pick.A trade involving Alan Henderson or Lorenzen Wright may be possible.I don't think that anyone of those two players could be of much use to us though.

Feigen did a story about Shandon's free agency when the Rockets were in Atlanta to play the Hawks...he said the same thing all free agents say--that he was going to keep his options open. Funny thing is, he pretty much closed the door on Atlanta being a place he'd like to play...he said he wasn't interested playing for them.

Considering the Hawks traded Mutombo for him, I think they'd want more than just Cato and a #13 for Ratliff...

    Baqui99,

They traded Mutombo for Ratliff, but Mt. Mutombo was on the last year of a contract they had no chance to renew. So they got something for him. Which is nice.

Another player we could possibly trade for is Nazr Mohammed. While Theo was out at the end of the season Nazr played 15-10 ball during the last 20 games of the season.

Look at my previous post.I wrote I don't think The Hawks are dumb. They are looking to sign up Nazr Mohammed to a long term deal, and he is happy with his increased minutes in Atlanta as compared to the limited playing time that he had in Philadelphia. If he does decide to leave then we could do a sign and trade, but I wouldn't sign him to a Cato like deal.

Just went back and checked. Nazr was a first round pick in 1998 thus Atlanta has a one year option on him this year.

That option would have to be have been taken or declined earlier in the year (by Philly). I'm thinking it was declined, but I don't recall for sure. Atlanta wouldn't have gotten the choice.

Ratliff won't be too happy going back to PF, IMO. He worked so hard to become a center.

With Theo coming back and Atlanta having several PF/C and needing another SG/SF - they have DerMarr and Kukoc who is 33 - we probably can trade for Nazr, Wright, or Crawford. Nazr has two years left on his current contract so it wouldn't be a sign and trade. If Shandon doesn't exercise his option this would probably be a good fit for both.

According to NBA Draft Net,Nazr Mohammed is a free agent.I think the Hawks want Theo Ratliff to play as a power forward, and Nazr as a center. They are reportedly unhappy with Henderson and also may not want to keep Wright even though he was playing well for them. Crawford is 6'9'',and a SF,but only played in 47 games last year and averaged 6.8 points a game.

Options must be exercised by July 1.
    Atlanta holds the option
