WIZ: I know there are a bunch of posters saying that but, I have not seen or heard in "quotes" of those words coming out of Dream's mouth.

A sign and trade for Olajuwon is very unlikely,as aelliott has pointed out.Olajuwon is only attractive to teams that can potentially win a championship, that's why nobody will give anyone with any value back to us.

Would it be worth (if we cannot get webber) to sign and trade Hakem for Reeves and swith draft picks to move up. Give them our 13th or 18th for their 6th?

Anybody know how much longer Reeves contract is for?

Dont see it happening. If a contendor is willing to pay Hakeem in the 10 mil range, then they will give the Rockets a bunch of cap crippling trash in return. Personally, Im not disappointed at Hakeem for wanting to shop himself around. I have said many times before that basketball is a business, players should be able to sign with anyone they want when their contract expires and teams should be able to trade players whenever they want. My only loyalty is to winning. It was a noble gesture of Les to re-pay Hakeem for the years he was underpaid and pull the Toronto deal where the Rockets wouldve netted Doug Christie, Shawn Marion and others.

Despite the run Hakeem had near the end of last season, I just dont see him as being dependable for an 82 game season. He has been injury plagued the last few seasons and has not proven that he can hold for an 82 game stretch.

Nope, Reeves contract is too much of a cap killer and that deal would totally remove us from contention of signing Webber.

    Guys,
A sign and trade is a no go. The Rocks would then have players (marginal at best) and little cap room. The name of the game this year is cap room either for signing Webber and other free agents or retaining our own.

I have pretty much come to the conclusion that Olajuwan is gone. So be it. How do we build from here and continue our forward progress......

    1) Try to trade Cato, Williams and Collier at all costs. At minimum - Cato.

    2) Try for Webber. If it does not happen we need something to replace Cato. This may happen through the draft with guys like Bradley and K. Johnson.

    3) Get a good SF in the draft.

    4) Retain Taylor & Co.

    5) Re-gear the offense - speed, speed, speed!

    6) Re-focus the Defense - Clog up the middle with the Zone.

    7) Get depth - atheletes rule, wear out the other teams (see 5 above) play 1-12.

    8) Hope for another free agent gem out or CD's bag of tricks.

Odd thing about this post is...this is probably the way the Rocks will go. I am guessing we keep all of our picks or trade for for higher. I do not think we will forward pick #18 to Vancouver. This draft is too deep and next year's draft is really shallow.

Personnally, I do not beleive Webber is coming to Houston; we are a bargainning chip for a sign and trade! That is all.

gone like a spent paycheck.... [IMG]

If we don't get webber, then why can't you include re-signing dream along with your 4th point?

Trade Good player + Cap Killer
for Good Player + Cap Killer

Dream + Cato + 13 = Reeves + Reef + 18 pick and their 2nd round pick this year and next

Dream would have to agree to do this deal and he won't.

"Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

On another post Glyde22 defends keeping Cato. I might have to add Rocket River's suggestion to his arsenal. I would never trade for Big Country. No matter who we get in return (or give up).

Now that we know Olajuwon is seeking $10 million a year. The Rockets must renounce him. Why not do a sign a trade involving Dream?

Do you really think that somebody is going to pay Olajuwon $10M/season plus give up compensation for him?

The only way somebody would do that would be if they could unload a contract albatross in return (such as Reeves) and Hakeem signs a very short term deal.

    bbmumu,
Barkley said he would play for the veterans minimum, likely so will Jordan, neither will use an exception.

You are right. I do remember them saying that. But I guess we need to keep our eye on the ball. Olajuwon would like more than the exemption.
