Native Houstonians, remember when we used to actually take pride in the rodeo? When actual country artists would play here for bigger crowds than any other stop on their tours? When great acts like Willie Nelson, George Strait, Hank Williams Jr, Earth Wind and Fire, and even Selena used to play to packed houses?

Well those days seem to be gone forever.

Now we have the traveling Disney tour and a bunch of douchebag wanna-be "country" artists who wear designer jeans and have frosted hair tips.

I've never been a HUGE country music fan, but I've always respected the fact that at least the old school artists were REAL. Now, not so much. Real cowboys don't have frosted tips.

And who are these Jonus Brothers? Is this a real band? I've heard the name a lot but I've never actually seen their "act". Are they like The Monkees?

If this is an early indicator, look forward to yet another lame Houston Rodeo lineup. :(

Sadly the Jonas Brothers and their purity rings will pack that place tighter than the Super Bowl would.

I can't stomach country. I have been to the rodeo to see ZZ Top and (less exciting) Chicago.

Dude. If it's on the radio, it ain't country music. It's pop with a god-awful twang and the occasional verse about farming.

    Awful, just plain awful.

EDIT: for the record, I have no idea who the folks in the thread title are.

    (per request of Swoly)

Tejano music is so terrible it makes me want to drown a litter of newborn kittens in battery acid.

I could compose a Tejano song in like 12 seconds.

    (base line)
    BUM-BUM-BUM-BUM..BUM...BUM...BUM...BUM...BUM...BUM-BUM-BUM-BUM......

    (Chorus)

    AYYYYYY MIIII CORTISONNNNNNNNNN

    (Accordion breakdown)

    THE END

    LATIN GRAMMY WINNAR!

RodeoHouston is in serious need of a new booking agent. I haven't attended since the last year in the Dome (2002), when Bob Dylan played the rodeo.

I only go if there is a musical act I want to see...

On the other hand, I go to the Barbecue cookoff EVERY year! :)

If the Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift are expected to make a run at the all time attendance records, it seems like their booking agent is doing their job.

my strategy as well. :D :D

no disrespect, but Hannah Montana sold out 10 mins after it was released. The Jonas Brothers are going to be huge as well. Even though I hate country music with a passion, I agree that the rodeo isn't "true" to itself anymore. That being said, it is a business proposition, and it is staying true to itself in that regard by making tons of money. If the ticket sells, why wont they do it? Its pretty brilliant marketing as well, I would think.

If you devote one night to which tons of YOUNG teenie-boppers come through, short term- sellout, longterm- you are catering to a whole new demographic which you are trying to capture for decades to come. People who went to see Hannah Montana as kids are much more likely to go again to the rodeo that those who never went at all, even if its not for the concert portion.

In my case, The first time I went to the concert part of the rodeo was for Rascal Flatts (I was dragged there). I didn't really care for it too much, but it did reach out to someone who wouldn't normally go. I will go again this year for the outdoor stuff.

At the end of the day, its all about the money. And the rodeo is doing a very good job of that.

Then let's change the name of the event to make it more accurate....

The Houston Children's Livestock Show and Rodeo

Maybe they could book the Teletubbies as well!

I guess.... if you don't really care about the integrity and tradition of the rodeo and you just care about $$$$$$$.
