the mvp race is tight between those top 3, but yao has an outside shot if we continue this tear through march and climb up the rankings.

Are you kidding me? Lebron James stats are impressive but most MVP voters value a record more. That's why Kobe has never won it after the Shaq years in spite of his numbers but this might be the year. I think it's a two man race now, CP and KB.

Yao's having a great year. He still lays the occasional egg, but his total game is better than ever: scores, plays D, passes, boards, gets fouled, hits FTs. Still can't figure out why his shooting % is so low. He should be a mid-fifties player. Maybe he still can be. And KG'll win the MVP

Yao's FG precentage is around around 54% in 2008. Much higher than those in Nov/07 and Dec/07 (50.4% and 46.1%). He's been learning RA's system.
I notice that recently he didn't attempt too many jump shots. This is probably why his FG percentage increased.

Where did you get this 58%? Isn't his % just around 50%? Or are you talking about something else?
    Thanks.

He shot too many jumpers (48% of all his FGA) while his jump shooting percentage is 35%.

Yao has a lot to improve.

He's talking about Yao's shooting percentage in the 21 games since January 1, 2008. If you read the original article Campbell's point is that Yao didn't look comfortable at the start of the season playing Adelman's offense but that he's making the adjustment as time goes on.

Yao's 50% FG is all right for center, most of historical top10 center shoot at slightly above 50%.

Shaq/Dwight is sort of power-center, they need attack at more close to rim,
and power-center shoots much worse FT.

Yao's eFG(consider 3pt and FT) is about 58%, along with other top players.

Tmac's eFG is much worse this yr, even though he shoot FG at 43% for obviously reasons.

Sorry, it is TS at 58% not eFG

    ----------------------------------------

Effective Field-Goal Percentage was popularized by current L.A. Clippers Coach Mike Dunleavy and the Rick Barry's Pro Basketball Bible series. It adjusts for the added value of three-pointers by counting them as 1.5 field goals, thus make it more fair to three-point shooters than field-goal percentage.

    eFG% = (FGM + .5*3PM)/FGA

True Shooting Percentage goes a step further by factoring in a player's performance at the free-throw line and considering their efficiency on all types of shots.

    TS% = Pts/(2*(FGA + (.44*FTA)))

in fact, Yao's TS% looks pretty bad if you do a comparison around the league.

    NOR: 2
    SAS: 3
    PHO: 2
    DAL: 3
    UTH: 3
    LAL: 2

    BOS: 3
    DET: 1

lebron's in this mvp race whether you think so or not, especially considering there's still 30 games left and we have no idea what kobe will do with his finger.

i'd probably give it to paul if i had to choose right this second though.
