This would royally piss me off. But for some reason I don't believe he would go back to New York. He turned down more money from the Yankees when he chose to sign here in Houston. It wouldn't make much sense for him to return to NY if he is such a "family man" as he proclaims. I think it'll either be retirement or re-upping with the Stros.
I don't see it as disingenuous on his part, really. That said, I'll be just as irritated as anyone else if he doesn't sign here.
I think people overrated the "he turned down more money" angle. The Yankees basically ignored him out of concern over his elbow gap (which turned out to be a valid concern.) They didn't offer more money until he had already reached a verbal agreement with Houston.
I don't buy it. Doesn't every agent use the Yankees to inflate their guy's price tag? Andy may want only fair market value from the Stros, but his agent needs the big commision, so why not say "The Yankees are offering X dollars and X years, so match it."
maybe thats why we are after Peavy this would suck...and would probably end up affecting roger as well (meaning he would retire)
Title: Text: Forget the fact that it's written at a third-grade level. There is a huge difference between the text and the title.
title says pettitte close to a deal with the yanks....text says they may have a deal by the end of the week
I hope it happens. Pettitt was a bust here and he will be worse the next 3 years. They will be lucky to get 1 good season out of 3 like we did. Bye Andy and don't let the door hit you. More wasted money by the Yanks! Yessss! Hopefully Clemens joins him at 2yrs/$40MM. The Astros should move on without either of these guys. It was fun while it lasted but let's turn the page.
The title says he's close to a deal. The text suggests that he's considering a deal, but he's closer to retirement.
i cant see him going back up there fwiw, they are talking about it on WFAN as well a little...ill let u know what the yankee reporter who is in orlando says if/when he comes on to talk about it
yea I agree with you about Andy. he and Peavy were about a wash last season and plus Peavy doesnt make as much. It would be nice to have Roger but I doubt he would come since Andy is heading to NY.
I'm OK with him heading to the Yanks. There are way to many questions with his health. We need an inning eater where there isn't even a question whether he's damaged goods.
Has he had any health problems the last two years? He's been exactly what you want: an inning eater. He struggled pre-ASB this year, but otherwise has been outstanding. Losing Andy will be a huge blow for the team, maybe moreso than Clemens given that Clemens is a 5/6 inning pitcher.
