http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/01/28/cocoran.bonds/2.html 2) Houston Astros: The Astros were terrible last year, but new GM Ed Wade has rolled the dice this offseason and is hoping for a big turnaround in a weak division. If he were to leave rookie sensation Hunter Pence in center, he'd have room for Bonds in a corner. The catch is that neither Bonds, nor current left fielder Carlos Lee really has any business playing defense. Having both of those players in the field on a daily basis could undo much of the good they contribute at the plate.
Then why on earth did we trade away good players for Michael Bourn? Whoever wrote that either smoked some bad crack or didn't bother to familiarize himself with last year's "news".
Exactly what I was thinking...aside from the fact that Bonds doesn't exactly fit that "good guy" persona the Astros always seem to covet, he would make the outfield defense worse than last year and would render the Brad Lidge trade completely pointless.
b/c the SI columnist is talking out of his "lack of sports information." ZERO chance this would happen. Although, it'd be interesting to see what "meds" come into MMP with both Tejada and Bonds on board.
getting Bonds would be great imo, it would be a one year deal we all know that dude can't play more than 2-3 days in a row and Bourn is still going to be part of the future. I love it plenty of playing time for Bonds/Lee/Pence/Bourn who were y'all counting on as a 4th outfielder Cruz Jr.?
So you would trade your closer for a 4th outfielder? Or, you would expect Barry Bonds to be a 4th outfielder? The Bonds circus in Houston: no thanks.
no you traded a closer who was not working out here for your future everyday CF. With Bonds being beat up like he is there is no way to expect he could play more than half the innings anyway so Bourn will still get tons of pt. Think about it, if Bonds starts you get to bring Bourn in to pinch run and then use him the rest of the way in CF moving Pence to right and Lee to left. If Bonds is resting you still get to bring that freak up one time to pinch hit, they will either walk him or he will jack the ball out of the ballpark. One year deal... question? Would he make the Astros better? also don't give me the roids crap, no team looks to have had more issues than the Astros when it come to the juice.
Well lets see #1-cost it would be a one year deal what is the big deal with that? It's not like the stros are anywhere close to the luxury tax #2-circus? he broke the record, it's over. I mean yeah there would be more attention but not really a circus
The Yankees say, "Hi." Bonds has been a circus for at least a decade. Do you really want some dick sitting in a $10,000 recliner in front of locker, all grouchy and ticked for no apparrent reason, no one allowed to locker next to him, the press getting yelled at and F-bombs dropped on them? Dude eats up locker-room real estate like some kind of 3rd world king, and sits on it all to himself. All THAT, for a 40+-year-old with bad knees who was once great but who'll now deliver 25ish home runs if he's lucky, and won't play but half the innings in the season? You gotta be kidding. Bonds will catch on somewhere, but it's telling how nobody's knocking his door down. The home run king, and here one month from ST he doesn't even have a job. Assclown.
I don't care if he is an *******, it's baseball not football or basketball they don't need to get along. Only the pitchers and catchers and coaches to baserunners need to get along. Question? Would Bonds make the Astros better? Yes or No the answer is yes
and the Oakland A's, who were probably the team that brought this out more than any in the bash brothers era. Roger WAS an Astro...but not when he was listed in the Mitchell Report. someone name the 'stros who were listed. i can't remember...but they weren't the big names of the past decade. and no thanks on bonds.
No question he would make the offense better, but unfortunately that is only half the game. I can't even think of an outfield of Bonds and Lee in the corners. Boy that would be bad. As good a hitter Carlos Lee is, he is equally bad defensively. The same can almost be said for Bonds, but not quite.
