Hey guys, Just checking out my new Sports Illustrated issue (Randy Moss cover) According to SI this was based on a survey of 227 NBA players (not specified if it was current or ex-players) Who is the most overrated player ? 1. Vince Carter 24 % 2. Carmelo Anthony 11% 3. Yao Ming 10% 4. Tracy Mcgrady 6% A few months ago it was asked Who is the worst coach in the NBA ? 1. Byron Scott 2. Jeff Van Gundy Can't remember the percentages on this one--all I remember was that JVG was 2nd to Byron Scott... You never really see Yao, T-Mac, or JVG really get into anything negative with other players--I wonder where this hate is coming from...
Forget SI. I haven't picked one up in 10 yrs. They screwed the Rox when we won (not giving us a cover without a fight) and ESPN the mag is much better.
Totally agree with you there -but I'm just confused why NBA players would feel this way about 3 pivotal people in the ROX organization... Jealousy maybe ??
SI blows. I think it is too early to overrate Yao. I can't see how McGrady is over rated. He is a rare talent and has proven it all year. If it is because he doesn't have a ring, blame his prior suck ass organizations. Tracy and Yao will get plenty of rings and very soon.
Here's a link to underrated/overrated NBA player. The guy is a former coach http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3115388
On the whose the most overrated poll, are they only giving them those four players to choose from? and same with the coaches poll, are they asking players to pick out of just those two coaches?
wtf what drugs did i not take before reading this under the most underrated player section..... 2. Maurice Taylor, Rockets This guy is a scorer deluxe. He's best on the left block where he'll turn his left shoulder for a deadly jump hook, and turn right for either a bull's-eye jumper or a power-house drop step. He's also an excellent perimeter shooter off screen-roll action, and his jumper is virtually indefensible because of his long-armed release. Taylor can also square up and go right or left, spin either way, and cross over left to right. If his defense was slightly quicker, and he didn't play with a squad full of superstars, Maurice Taylor would be a definite All-Star and a legitimate contender for the NBA scoring title. yeah MoT is a scorer but wtf? legit contender for the scoring title???
Well, he's exaggerating about his offense. However, the Rockets didn't dump him because of his offense. They dumped him because he didn't play a lick of defense, he didn't rebound, he wasn't physical and he had an albatross for a contract.
No it was a survey of 227 NBA players giving their own answers then they ranked those who got mentioned the most....
have a link? YAO 10% means 23 players choose him, TMAC 6%-- 14 players. well, if look at all-star ballots, maybe both of them overrated
Uh, SI is by far the best sports journalism out there, print or TV or radio. Getting mad at SI for a poll that they conducted is ridiculous. It's like getting mad at Nielsen's because you don't like the way the ratings turned out.
I'd have to respectfully disagree with you there. Any publication that has to lean on a swimsuit issue to keep its face on the map is compensating for something...
Can you substantiate your claim? SI seems no better that ESPN. They cover flavor-of-the-day stories and follow the hype.
Exactly, they are by far the best sports journal. I was mad at S.I. for the Rockets Cover fiasco but people have to realize they are just trying to sell issues. Like it or not, the Rockets were not the most popular champions and that series was one of the least watched. But just like this article, who gives a crap? And S.I. doesn't cover flavor-of-the-day stories. That is what separates them from everyone else.
