SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Guard Kevin Martin agreed in principle to a contract extension Tuesday with the Sacramento Kings. Geoff Petrie, the Kings' president of basketball operations, announced the deal, believed to be a five-year extension to begin in the 2008-09 season. Martin's agent, Jason Levien, couldn't immediately be reached for comment. "We expect to finalize the contract in the very near future," Petrie said. "He's one of the most exciting young players in the NBA. We look forward to watching him play for many years to come." Martin, a speedy shooter who will begin his fourth NBA season in the fall, was the Kings' leading scorer last season with 20.2 points per game. The former first-round pick was one of Sacramento's few bright spots during its first losing season since 1998, and the club moved quickly to sign Martin before he became a free agent after next season. Sacramento has made few changes to its 33-win roster in the offseason, signing center Mikki Moore and hiring coach Reggie Theus. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/basketball/nba/08/28/kings.martin.ap/index.html
Mad. This world is mad. KM has had a breakout season, sure, but he isn't on par with Gerald Wallace and the bunch. I don't think the Kings were being very smart here.
When the Geigers and Katos were getting paid I understood it. They were tall. But now everyone is getting paid. What the hell? I like Martin. Always have. But 20ppg on a horrible team doesn't warrant 11mil!!!! ELEVEN!!!
maybe they are trying to piss off their fans so much that they wont care when they get moved to vegas
Seems about right to me- we were paying Juwan about 7 mil per season- Martin is a good playmaker and scorer-on par with Rasheed Wallace Money and Nene Hihlario at 10 to 11 mil per year
but again they are big men and good big men such as the ones you mentioned are hard to find, thus the higher pay. in my opinion, martin dosnt deserve that type of money, i wouldnt pay him more than 7. of course there are worse offers out there for worse offers but still 11mil?
Well deserved. Very efficient and probably the quickest 2 in the league. The guy can flat out ball and the Kings can't risk losing him.
WOW talk about overpaying....martin was a great find for them and a good player, but he is not worth 11 mil imo. 8-9 is a lot more realistic for him. no idea what happened to that kings team, once known for its shrewd moves and great acquisitions now they are a mediocre at best teams with some bad contracts on the books.
OK, hold on. I've read the SI story, ESPN, and the official press release on NBA.com, and none of them have mentioned $55 million. Even if it was that amount, that's a bargain compared to Rashard. Hell, I could probably name 25 or 30 guys with worse contracts than 5 years/$55 million...
How's he overpaid!? I mean there's a guy out there named Rashard Lewis is is getting paid Kevin Garnett type money for putting up Kevin Martin numbers.

According to two league sources, fourth-year shooting guard Kevin Martin late Monday night agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Kings worth about $55 million. http://www.sacbee.com/kings/story/347713.html
You are absolutely right. I should not have compared him to a big man's pay. I only referenced these players for like dollar amount. BTW- I would rather have Kevin Martin at 11 mil than Rashard at what he is being paid. The Kings did not overpay by much - if at all. Think about the 9 mil the Rockets paid Glen Rice
Like I said, I checked SI, ESPN, and NBA.com. Sure would have been nice if you had posted the sacbee link at the beginning of the thread...
you know its still bugging me now hours later that they gave him that much money damn now i dont fault him whatsoever but i keep thinking that he is gonna be the new juwan howard all over again
