Wondering if we should scrap NBA awards is an overreaction, but yea they pretty clearly changed the MVP criteria for last year.

What the **** is this numbskull even talking about?? That's not at all what Morey said......in fact, it was the exact opposite. Russell Westbrook is the one that got a participation trophy because TRIPLE DOUBLEZZZ. Harden not only won, but he won while making everyone around him better.

And Griffin's logic that we should "just eliminate championships if thats the case" is stupid too. He obviously didn't read how Morey very directly talked about how team accomplishments should matter more than individual.

When Curry won it was all about "team accomplishments", when Westbrook won team accomplishments be damned.

We all know its about Westbrook's triple double average and that alone. They cite the last person to average a triple double was Oscar Robertson back in 1962...well he DIDN'T EVEN WIN THE MVP THAT SEASON DIPSHITS. Bill Russell did because he had a BETTER TEAM.

Yeah, but Blake's reaction is about the same as most fans on Twitter. The argument that Daryl makes makes sense but everyone just sees it as Houston being salty. Theres a level of that, yes, lol. But I honestly would have been okay with Kawhi beating out Harden versus WB based on the best player/best team argument.

WB in no way made his teammates better and, no, 10 assists does not equate to making your teammates better. I'll bet Oladipo will do much better in Indiana and the media will ask "where was this in OKC?"

Maybe the media should define the vote for MVP or have better award categorization. Season MVP. Playoff MVP. Finals MVP. Whoever gets more than one of the MVP awards wins Overall MVP.

A title tells the story here. Unfortunately, it's the wrong story.

The fact that the goal posts are always changing is annoying. If these were just meaningless awards, that would be fine, but player bonuses and incentives are based in this. This is more than hardware, this is player money here.

The truth is WB stepped up his game whereas Harden kinda gradually fell off as the season went on. To everyone outside of Houston, it was clear who was playing better with about 10 games left in the regular season, and it wasn't Harden. Also, Houston's team record wasn't even that much better than OKC's except for first two months or so. One might argue that you cannot cast your vote based off of recent performance and have to take the whole season into account, but unfortunately recency bias is real.

My hunch is that if the circumstances were reversed and Harden and Houston closed out the regular season strong, the MVP race would have been at least much closer. But WB just generated more buzz late into the season, and it wasn't merely because he was averaging triple-double. In terms of clutch performance, WB really was pretty impressive.

As well as against the Magic, Trailblazers, etc. The list goes on. You can hate WB all you want, but as one wise man once said "numbers don't lie"

If and when the criteria changes for winning championships, where hacks get to 'vote' for their favorite teams to promote a narrative, then YES. It will be time to scrap the postseason.

As usual, Griffin exposes himself as lacking 8th grade critical thinking skills.

I just picked a number of points above Westbrook's average (35) and looked at the results. He lost a lot of those games and only beat teams with winning records a handful of times. That's not making your team better, it's inflating your stats. Before the season, people predicted that OKC would finish higher than the Rockets. Harden outperformed expectations and Westbrook was doing nothing to climb the NBA ladder in wins.

Westbrook lost 3 in a row twice and 4 in a row twice. Harden lost 3 in a row once, two of those games were in a 3 games in 4 nights deal against the Golden State Warriors. One is a habit, the other an anomaly in the scheduling. Westbrook is a loser.

In Westbrook's two 50 point triple double games:

108 points, 21 assists and 26 rebounds. Took 84 shots.

In Harden's two 50 point triple double games:

    104 points, 30 assist, 29 rebounds. Took 54 shots.

Westbrook is a losing style player that jacks up too many shots and doesn't make his team better. He forces himself to get stats.

Don't disagree with you at all there. If it was about the numbers, why did Curry beat out Harden two years before then?

See, you can't have it both ways. Either he should have won it against Curry, or WB. Take your pick. Hence the issue is, why do the goal posts move dramatically year after year? Why do the goal posts move to fit what's popular? That is the primary issue here.
