No respect the streak like this only happen once. Where is SI cover? No respect I guess. Let's get even 22.
i flipped throught that March 17 issue yesterday...not only did we not get on the cover, we didn't even get a mention in the whole magazine.....not even in the whos hot whos not section....unbelievable....I would think our streak would at least get us a spot in that stupid little section...
You never want to be on the cover of SI. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_Illustrated_Cover_Jinx nothing really big in the wiki entry.
we're not even on the cover of Sporting News magazine, but last week Yao had a cover Headline and a story basically b****ing saying he should to say no to his country
Sports Illustrated has been known by me for at least 50 years and has always catered to the common man. (In the early 60s I bought a few copies, never since!!!) Giving minimum space to sports like Basketball and Track. Track gets a good coverage once every four yeras with its olympic report. NBA Basketball gets a good coverage for the winner of the NBA Championships. It's so called standing as great sports magazine has been in question for many years!!!
If we won the next 5 games all these so-called analysts will say they can't beat these teams in a 7 game series. Rockets just need to focus and play thier game to the fullest with a chip on their shoulder for the rest of this season and the playoffs.
OK, I'll sub in this thread for tinman. A true Rockets fan never glances at si, much less cares what they put on their cover. si is to be shunned and spit upon at every possible chance. After the first championship... after subscribing to si for the 23 years since I was 10 years old... I eagerly ran to the mailbox knowing that the Rockets would be on the cover. Having waited my entire life for a Houston team to win a championship and be celebrated on the cover of si was something I and many others had anticipated through many, many season of Celtics losses, Steelers losses, Mets losses... and all those teams got covers after they won championships, so surely si would have the Rockets on the issue right after Game 7. Wrong. They put a freaking soccer guy on the cover. They completely destroyed the hopes and dreams of every kid who ever followed the Rockets, even if some of us were in our 30's by then. The Rockets were relegated to a small inside story. To make matters worse, si had printed a Knicks commemoration edition in anticipation of a Knicks win, but they didn't print one for the Rockets. Soon after the season, Dream was in NY and made it a point to go talk to the editors of si about this slight. To my knowledge, petty officer David Robinson and the editors of si are the only people Dream got riled up over after he found religion. That was the last si edition I ever read. I unsubscribed immediately. I won't even pick them up in the barber shop. I'd rather read magazines about women's hairstyles than ever deign to read si again. My wife did give me the commemorative edition after the second championship, but she didn't realize it would bring a pain and hollowness to my soul. si sucks and the world would be a better place if the people who run that rag had nothing to do with Sport.
It's happened before to the Lakers. They even got up to 33 wins. The Rockets are 2nd. First place gets you the SI cover. Second place gets you upset that you don't make the SI cover.
I don't even read the SI magazine anymore. It use to be good #2 reading material but I'll just bring my laptop in the throne these days.
