This is a VERY interesting read on how a Hard Cap will impact the future of the league and also how 2011 may be a very ominous time in the NBA.

Great read, I like some of the possible changes but would be surprised if they were so drastic.

A possible $8-12 million for a max player? That would be a ridiculous change!

However, I do like the implications of evening out the playing field. Frankly, I'm tired of seeing the same teams being ultra competitive while the rest of the league essentially throws in the towel.

I LOVE IT !!! FINALLY !!! Now all these overpaid self-centered, ego having, love to be worshipped, as long as I get my money thinking, selfish, arrogant, drag queen, uppity ass players.

You don't think 8 million is enough ? Good, then get the **** OUTTA HERE !!

They already have so much money so it's time to pack it in. What goes around, comes around. This day had to come, call it Judgement Day if you will. They had it coming because 95% was walking with their heads in the clouds, thinking they are all that and almost sold their soul to the devil in the process.

    GET IT DONE STERN !!!!

Hard cap wont happen, if it did you would see a max flow of star players overseas for more money. Stern wont have that.

Let's not fool ourselves. There is a lot of hype about much Euroleague players be paid more. NBA max players make $15-17 million more than euroleague players. In some euroleague teams, the taxes are paid for by the club. Even if the max players took a 10-15% paycut and took into account an extra $2-3 million paid taxes for the euroleague player, the NBA players are still making at least $10 million more than their euroleague counterparts.

highest paid player comparison between NBA and Europe.
Mcgrady $23 mil Childress $6.2 mil

5th highest paid player comparision between NBA and Europe.
Shaq $20 mil Jorge Garbosa $4.2 mil

    NBA Salaries

Euroleague Salaries(salaries are in euros, multiply all totals by 1.3866 to get dollars)

I just thought of something else.

Even if the league installed a hard cap and all max players dropped to the current MLE, the max-contract players will make more in endorsement in the USA than in Europe.

European basketball endorsement contracts aren't nearly as big as American basketball endorsement contracts.

Basketball is not nearly as popular as soccer over there. There is also a smaller population.

If you haven't guess, I am betting that the max salary won't go down to$8-12 mil.

The Chris Paul's/Lebron's/Dwight's wouldn't but just about any other player could probably get better endorsement deals from the euroleagues/china esp if the hard cap for a max is 8 million.

And with all those crazy rumors of some euro team sharking lebron this summer for 50 million or something ridiculous like that, I'm pretty confident a euro club (even a chinese club) would gladly fork over much more than 8 million to have a NBA superstar.

It also raises the question when these multi millionaires get paid way more for endorsements than their contracts who are they more loyal too? Are they going to go for an off the backboard dunk every time they touch the ball to get their shoes on espn?

I like the idea the article proposed about revenue sharing but it would be extremely difficult to implement.

If there is a major salary drop expect a strike.

Wait until you see owners reduce player salaries, increase ticket prices and still cry about the unfairness of the system...which is what they have done the last two CBAs.

Are they? When is the last time an NBA franchise sold at a loss or was practically given away to avoid the losses? Bankrupt? Any evidence other than the NBA to suggest owners are getting killed financially?
