Denzel was the best villain in a movie I have ever seen. Hands down. But I really thought Russell Crowe shoulda gotten this one...his portrayal in A Beautiful Mind was incredible. Any other year, I would pick Denzel over anybody else. It's all good, Denzel deserved it too.
I really thought Crowe had it in the bag but he's probably getting some backlash for his attitude. Denzel was pretty good but I thought Crowe was a little better.
Yeah that might be another reason voters didn't go his way. Well either way he's got an Oscar, just for the wrong role!
Russel Crowe was seriously ROBBED! His performance in A Beautiful Mind was the best by far. Im beginning to think that there was a serious Oscar conspiracy this year...
Training Day was pretty good, I watched it last night. I didn't see any of the other best picture nominees. I think there was some favoritism. But his performance was really good - man I wanted him dead in that movie. Congrats Denzel and Sidney!
Amelie got totally shut out which pissed me off!!! It's amazing how little play it gets for being such a wonderful, beautiful movie.
I thought Ian McKellan was robbed. He had a great performance in LOTR, but I must admit that the other guys (I forget his name, Jim someone) did pretty well in Iris.
Gosford Park was easily one of Altman's worst pictures. I also lost a lot of respect for him (and he's always been one of my favs) for his comments after 9/11.
Gosford Park was one of the most boring movies of the year. Soooo disappointed after the way people talked about how good it was.
I thought Gosford Park was *fantastic*. Loved it loved it loved it. But it was b****y and character-driven; if you don't like wordy zinger-filled period dramas, then it would be a lost cause. I hereby start the unofficial awards: Best Boobs: Uma Thurman. *******! Worst Boobs: Tie, Jennifer Connolly (the saggy-titted virus caught from Sarah Jessica Parker at the Emmys) and Gwyneth Paltrow (and may I just say in reference to that dress: what the flying buggery bollocks was *that*?) Most endearing: Jim Broadbent and all my NZ peeps. Awwwwwwwwwww. Most annoying: Halle, I empathise. Really. It's historical and significant and fabulous and all that. But get some f*cking perspective (remember that Ethel Waters and Lena Horne could *sing* and act), and *do not thank your team of lawyers*, you idiot. Most freakish person there who wasn't a member of Cirque du Soleil: the subject of the winning documentary short. Did anyone *see* him? I thought someone had put acid in my fajitas! OK, I could go on forever here so I'll stop.
Was that Uma sitting next to Ethan Hawke? DAMN! LOL I was wondering who that was falling out of her dress.
I was so pumped for Denzel!! Training Day was easily my favorite movie of the year...and I thought he did a great job! Nice to see nice people win! As for Uma...my wife said immediately, "hey, uma's got new boobs!"
