Yanjing's not bad. Cheap as dirt in Beijing. I drank a lot of it Definitely better than Bud. There are better beers out there... but what better than to drink Yanjing while watching Yao?
They sell it at the Compaq Center. I've had a few. They are alright. Fairly strong, but it's got a good taste. It doesn't seem to be the kind of beer I could sit down and knock back for a few hours with my buddies like Shiner or Corona or Red Stripe. Still though, it's pretty good, and if you go to the Compaq Center, you should really make sure to pick one up.
I remember seeing YangJing ALE in the grocery store inside of HongKong City Mall on Bellaire and Boone. Same price as Qingdao. I'll definitely pick up a 6-pack next time when I go there ...
Confirmed - I bought a 6-pack at the Hong Kong Market. It's not really to my taste, but I'm more of a Woodpecker cider guy.
I consider myself a Tsingtao man. I don't like Miller and they sponsor the Rocks, why would I switch my chinese beer if I won't switch my american beer?
Funny you ask this. I was in the beer line at the Compaq-Spurs game and noticed the Chinese beer. I asked the fellas in front of me if it was worth trying and one of them immediately said, NO, DON'T DO IT! He said it was a terrible tasting beer as it is made from rice! I stuck to the old reliable Heinekin.
My father's first business deal out of biz school was negotiating the export rights for Tsingtao beer to New York. The Heiniken guys actually tried some crazy-ass Sopranos-type threatening, but they were all bark and no bite. No Amsterdam mafia knocking at my door when I was a kid.
but then again, cider ain't beer.... in reference to the main question, "Should we try YangJing Beer?" of course, why not? Try something new, if you don't like it, then you're out $6 or so....
