should we trade for/buy Mario Chalmers?

I have this idea, since we bought/traded for Carl Landry by using our future second rounder and cash, which means that since our 2nd round pick will always be in the 50s, we upgraded our pick to the 1st pick of the 2nd round just by using cash!(thanks Morey)and obviously we wanted the player not the pick order so we'd have done the same if he was like the 5th pick of the 2nd round. And of course we now have the awesome Carl Landry in our team.

So for this years draft, I think we can do something similar. A player that has caught my eye and great interest is Mario Chalmers. I think this PG will allow us to trade Aaron Brooks or Steve Francis away since he will provide decent backup to our PG position. Like one poster has already mentioned, just think Daniel Gibson, or Chris Duhon, or Delonte West. I think Chalmers could be the next Chris Duhon, or in other words a great addition to add depth in our team:

a couple of upsides and downsides

    draftexpress.com
    • Outstanding defender(we have the 2nd best d in the league)
    • Unselfish(role player and pass-first player to Yao and T-Mac)
    • Understands his role(role player??)
    • Fantastic shooting percentages(yep, I could do with that)
    • Incredibly efficient(just see Carl Landry's efficiency)

downsides being of average size and athleticsm, and can't create own shot, average midrange game, etc etc basically the downsides of your usual 2nd rounder.

with Chalmers likely to go late 1st early to mid 2nd so I suggest we trade a future 2nd round pick or even our this years second rounder for him, or if not him someone similar to what I've talked about, plus cash. I think this is a good way to get a better pick without giving up much, in fact nothing if u don't consider cash to be valuable.(does Les?)

    opinions?

    cheers

this could apply to another top 2nd rounder.
btw I suggest we buy Phoenix's 1st round pick if they want to sell it, like they've done for the past 2 years...can't believe how stupid they are in selling their 1st rounder...

Chalmers is one of my favourite guys , I would even pick him at 25.
He still needs to show he can handle being a full time pg in the NBA but I think he can do that.
And if he can he is just perfect for us.
Like you said terrific defense and good size , smart and a team player.
Lights out shooter and clutch as hell.
I believe his shot creating skills are better than he gets credit for because he was on a very talented team (the same with Brandon Rush btw).

He will not be dunking on people but he is still pretty athletic.

He reminds me a lot of a Jason Terry with better defense and less offense.

I like Chalmers. However, I think I'd pick Lester Hudson before him. Hudson seems to be everything Mario is except is taller and can create his own shot.

But if we don't get Hudson, I definitely would like to get Mario.

Yep, Chalmers or Hudson. At least one please! It'd be brilliant if we could get both of them.

and then we can trade Francis' expiring contract near the trade deadline and Brooks also becomes very dispensable(provided he doesn't improve greatly next season). also that means we don't need to pursue Kyle Lowry or other Memphis guards in any Miller trade we do(I'd rather have a pick)

Get it done Morey! Chalmers and Hudson!!

where do you think they'll end up in the draft? I'm predicting early 2nd round, with a good chance of one of them going late 1st round.

These two guards I believe fits the Rockets extremely well, at least as a back-up.
