Rumor is that he could possibly be had for something around a third round pick. The guy has had his off field issues, but is still young (I think he's 23 or 24). He's a tough runner that would fit well in our system. Should the Texans go after him? Personally, I would think a fourth rounder this year, and a sixth rounder next year would be a fair trade...
I think this would be a perfect pickup for the Texans and see no reason why they shouldn't make this deal. If we can get Lynch for a 3rd round pick it would be a no brainer.
It would be a good idea to talk to Buffalo now about setting up a contingency plan to trade for Marshawn Lynch if it turns out Ryan Matthews either 1) isn't available to us when we pick or 2) we end up picking DB in the first round. Haynesworth + Lynch = Win Now Mode?
I not would give up nothing more than a 4th rounder for him. He is close to free agency and has had some troubles off the field so he could be close to another suspension.
I think we should be looking at win now mode. Our best player AJ is about to be 29 and is at the peak of his game. I would give up a 2nd for Haynesworth and a 4th for Lynch. I have a feeling Thomas and Wilson will be gone so give me Pouncey or Iupati in the first and best CB available in the third. We would strengthen the OL both in pass protection, (keeping Schaub upright means best passing game in the NFL), and a better running game with Foster, Lynch, and Slaton. Haynesworth immediately helps our pass coverage since opposing QBs will no longer be able to step up in the pocket at will.
I think Lynch would be an upgrade and would ultimately help, but I'm just not a big fan of trading draft picks. The Texans seem to get it when it comes to building a team. It's taking longer than most would like, but under the watch of Smith/Kubiak, the Texans have been building the right way. In the NFL, you get your cornerstones through the draft and you add depth by signing more minor pieces in free agency. All you have to do is look at Haynesworth as an example. One season after signing him to that huge deal, the Redskins are looking to move him.
The 1st round pick on Thomas...2nd rounder on Haynesworth...3rd rounder on Lynch? Yes, I'd j*zz in my pants and maybe on my face.
One thing to remember guys is that picks this year are worth more because of the amount of players that declared early because of the CBA situation. This is perhaps the deepest draft we've seen in a decade, maybe more.
I would pull that trigger immediately. The guy has great potential, much better risk then LJ last season. Im all for it
my question, too. I'd say no to Lynch - had a pretty mediocre year last year. Might gamble on Ronnie Brown if it wasn't too high of a pick. The reason the Dolphins would trade him are the same you'd not want to give up too much - the guy can't stay healthy.
He started the season with a suspension and Fred Jackson played great in his place, they split carries when he returned
I'd say we're in win now mode more so than the owners... That being said I'd take Brown over Lynch but I don't see the Texans making many headline trades or moves this offseason as usual. Does anyone here really think they'll be taking Matthews with the 20th? I really don't see the pressing need in absolutely targeting and this guy there. There are plenty of more holes to fill in the D which is the direction I see them going, again.
I thought it was more of an interior OL issue than RB issue - granted, it wasn't Chris Meyers fault SS put it on the ground every other play...but generally I didn't see RB as their most pressing need. Plus, in most mocks I see, Matthews is a slight reach at 20. i could potentially see them trading down targeting Matthews later in the first round and picking up a mid round pick, but otherwise see them going Kyle Wilson / Earl Thomas route. I put their needs at: 1a - Secondary 1b - Interior defensive line 2 - Interior offensive line 3 - running back just my opinion...
Only way I see us taking Mathews is if the Texans don't think Slaton can fully recover from his injury AND a guy like Kyle Wilson is gone by #20. There are more pressing needs IMO and there should be some decent RBs still available in the 3rd. I would think about giving up a 4th for Lynch, but nothing more. Guys like Dwyer, Tate, Dixon, and maybe even McKnight could be available in the 3rd. I'd rather take my chances on one of these guys in the 3rd than give up a 3rd for Lynch. While he is a good RB, his baggage is pretty bad and something the Texans do not need at this point.
