According to Espn "Ben Wallace's Days are numbered". Do you think the Rockets organization should make a push to acquire him as a bruising PF? Would he be a good compliment to the team? How could he be acquired (i don't know how a trade would work, or when his contract is up).
Ben Wallace is everything Larry Brown DREAMED of when he was in Philly. I doubt he'll let that go. I think he'd much rather let Elden Campbell or maybe even Mehmet Okur go.
I'll play along. He's an insane defensive player who doesn't require the ball at ALL. Ben Wallace would be the perfect compliment at PF.
I agree, I thought it was bull**** for them to propose such a thing, but just figured I'd get the board's take on the matter. Ben Wallace would be perfect along our scoring center, but its just a pipe dream *sigh*
Also didn't Wallace trash talk about Yao, or did he get over that and have a new found repect for him. I honestly don't remember the outcome of that whole Olympics situation from last year.
Ben Wallace and Alvin Williams are at the top of my Christmas wish list. Both players are efficient and unselfish hard workers. But BEN WALLACE whew man that would be sweet. But like xiki I am still not going to hold my breath.
Maybe we can give them our next 5 first round picks for Ben Wallace. And then give Griffin and also another 5 first round picks to the Magic for Tmac. Starting line up PG - Steve Francis SG - Tracy McGrady SF - Mr. Pike PF - Ben Wallace C - Yao Ming Bench Mobley I could at least see us making the playoffs this year.
All of the US Olympic team gave props to Yao, especially Wallace, as Big Ben was our 5 vs China. Yao had a good game vs the US team....somewhere in the neighborhood of 13-15 points and between 8-10 rebounds. I don't really remember anyone talking trash too much. Nothing disrespectful, at any rate. Seems like the only people who thought Yao wouldn't amount to anything were the "analysts" and various "experts" in the media.
How about this Houston trades: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.7 minutes) Houston receives: PF Ben Wallace (6.9 ppg, 15.4 rpg, 1.6 apg in 39.3 minutes) PG Alvin Williams (13.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 5.3 apg in 33.9 minutes) Change in team outlook: +11.1 ppg, +16.0 rpg, and +5.8 apg. Detroit trades: PF Ben Wallace (6.9 ppg, 15.4 rpg, 1.6 apg in 39.3 minutes) Detroit receives: PF Jerome Williams (9.7 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 71 games) Change in team outlook: +2.8 ppg, -6.2 rpg, and -0.3 apg. Toronto trades: PG Alvin Williams (13.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 5.3 apg in 33.9 minutes) PF Jerome Williams (9.7 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 33.0 minutes) Toronto receives: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 62 games) Change in team outlook: -13.9 ppg, -9.8 rpg, and -5.5 apg. Or This Houston trades: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.7 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) Houston receives: PF Ben Wallace (6.9 ppg, 15.4 rpg, 1.6 apg in 39.3 minutes) PG Alvin Williams (13.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 5.3 apg in 33.9 minutes) PF Michael Bradley (5.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.0 apg in 19.6 minutes) Change in team outlook: +11.8 ppg, +20.2 rpg, and +4.4 apg. Detroit trades: PF Ben Wallace (6.9 ppg, 15.4 rpg, 1.6 apg in 39.3 minutes) Detroit receives: PF Jerome Williams (9.7 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 71 games) Change in team outlook: +2.8 ppg, -6.2 rpg, and -0.3 apg. Toronto trades: PG Alvin Williams (13.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 5.3 apg in 33.9 minutes) PF Jerome Williams (9.7 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 33.0 minutes) PF Michael Bradley (5.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.0 apg in 19.6 minutes) Toronto receives: SF Glen Rice (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 62 games) PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 82 games) Change in team outlook: -14.6 ppg, -14.0 rpg, and -4.1 apg. I have no idea why these teams would do these trades except us but it was fun. The second provides some benifits to Toronto like cap room and thins out their glaring logjam at the PF position plus they get the moochster to help with bobble head night. (shhh... nobody tell them he shaved his head) But I have no idea why Detroit would trade Ben Wallace.
So now the concensus is that Glen Rices' expiring contract is worth one of the (if not the) most dominant defensive all-star big men in the league. Wow!, we've come a long way from, "I'll trade Glen Rice for a tub of nachos".
Cato, Eddie Griffin and Nachbar for Wallace and the ending contract of Bobby Sura makes sense for both sides, of course if Pistons want to move him.
The insider article is one of the stupidest things ever written in any language. Detroit isn't trading Ben Wallace. And if by chance the planets alligned in a certain manner, armageddon was at hand and they did trade him, they'd expect a perennial all-star in return.
