Seeing how it is really easy to follow a star basketball player to his house, should the Rockets encourage or provide security to their players? Maybe not a bodyguard, but an escort from the arena to their home or something. If the players feel that they need it, then i think the Rockets organization should provide it. If you were an owner of a major sports franchise and had millions of dollars invested in players like Yao and McGrady, would you provide them with security regardless the player wants it or not? How can you follow someone home? I just take the whole issue to heart. Last week marked a year since my parents were victims of a home invasion. These guys followed my parents home from the mall. If those guys knew how easy it was to follow Yao home after a game, they probably would've went to his house instead
is that security only for toyota center? say if yao feels unsafe to drive home...can he request that security follow him???
I'm not about current day, but when Barkley was on the team (right after he threw the guy out the bar in Orlando) they hired a guy to for security while in Houston and on the road. Though that was only one unarmed man..... he left the Rockets a few years ago and is now Charles' personal security... I'm not too sure how much an escort home would help... find the player's home... security escort leaves....
Security beyond Toyota Center should definitely be at the player's expense. I'm sure the Players Association offers advice on this.
but if you're les alexander and you have so much invested in mac and yao, wouldnt you want them to roll with security?
I work with guys who earn a hell of a lot more money for my company than Yao or TMac earn for Les, and I dont see our CEO sending bodyguards with them on the subway everyday. People have to live their lives.
Yeah, but they're probably more anonymous and their wealth is probably less apparent to the average person. I'm guessing a Gates or any other high profile billionaire has informal security arrangements. There are also probably privacy issues with having your boss provide a personal companion for you outside of work.
Yao will have some private personal security after this mess -- T-Mac will no doubt give him some advice on this. Yao is one of the most well known people on the earth -- he shouldn't have to worry about idiots following him home.
the thing is, we dont know their names...they're not on tv. i bet donald trump has body guards when he goes to subway
Well, if you're being paid as much as Yao and Tracy, you should be able to hire your own body guards. That's actually one part of the "we earn a lot but we spend a lot" of the players (and really all famous rich people like star actors etc) that I would agree with.
The only security the rockets should provide is inside when they are playnig or practicing, outside his job place the security should be on the players expense.
I think the rockets should provide me with security after home games. i always park a block or two away from TC and downtown can be a scary place. An escort to my car would be nice. On a serious note, just rollin, sorry to hear about your parents incident. Crime is only a problem if it affects you personally, its hard for others who have not gone through it to undertand how unsafe this world can really be.
Tmac does not have his own security any longer, that is as of about 2 weeks ago. But up until that point he had a full time bodyguard.
You're co-workers aren't public figures like Yao and T-mac. The players should get escorted home by seurity, or HPD.
I can see it now <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w34/ssg41/2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
