One thing we Rocket fans know is that this organization is not afraid to tank a season on purpose in order to get better in the long haul. Example: Trading Moses Malone, and getting Ralph Sampson and Rodney McCray. Then having a late season swoon in order to get Hakeem Olajuwon. I think it is time to let the young guys play. Put in Kenny Thomas as a starter, let the boys run up and down the court. Take our lumps this year, as this season is OVER. Go ROCKETS 2K !!! 1999 a year to forget in Rocket land. DaDakota PS Thank you Charles for everything !!!
Tank??? No. Considering that the Rockets really have little choice in the matter, whatever they do could not be considered tanking. When SA tanked a few years ago to get Duncan, it was pretty obvious that they were tanking. With Charles completely done and Dream near the end of his career, what they do now will be their future. Might as well start building a positive attitude about things and go forward from here. Mango [This message has been edited by Mango (edited December 08, 1999).]
You bunch of fair weathered quitters. No season, I repeat no season is over because of one name.......Rudy Tomjanovich. Look at what Rudy did with the team at the World Championships. Look at how he got us 2 championships with Hakeem and a bunch of CBA players. Either support your team or find another team to be a fair weathered fan of!!!!
IWM, OT isn't a CBA player and neither was Clyde. I haven't done the math, but I would venture a guess that Charles and Dream each have more NBA minutes than the rest of the team combined. Experience matters quite a bit. Even if they could find a CBA player currently putting up CB4 numbers, CBA minutes aren't worth as much as NBA minutes. Currently they lack a respected low post game and some tough rebounding. KT or Rogers or somebody could pick up some of CB4's stats, but none will make up his experience. Mango
Rudy! You think a)Rudy led the Rockets to back-to-back titles and b)he will lead this crew to the playoffs this year? What a crock. Hakeem was driving the bus back then and; as much of the team's poor start this year and poor season last year can be attributed to hideous coaching, the odds of Rudy being the Moses of this team are LOOOOONG. If they do it it will be because Francis, Cato and Mobley get it done.
Hakeem!!! You think it was Hakeem. Who in the @#$% was the great architect of this team. Hakeem was here for a heck of a lot of years before Rudy was coach and how many championships did we win. GET a clue.....Hakeem and Don Chaney=0 championships. Meanwhile Rudy comes along and we have 2 championships (one without Clyde). Show some respect you bunch of fair weathered fans....give Rudy time to fix this mess!!! ------------------ A simple question: how many championships has Scottie won without Michael?
IWM, Following that line of reasoning, then your moniker should be ITWASNEVER MICHAEL, ITWASPHIL. Mango
This will not be a "tank" job. Obviously w/o Charles & Dream (for a few more weeks) we are in trouble. We have some athletes but we don't have anyone on the team that can lead us in crunch time. Anderson knows how to win, but I'm not sure if he can (will) step up. We have talent but I think a lottery pick could be beneficial for next year and future years. Good luck Chuck! Guess I don't see us making the playoffs. Remember until the 3 game winning streak, we were wondering if we could make the playoffs with Chuck.
Tank??? No. Think of how bad the Rox would have to purposely lose to match the perils of the Warriors, Nets, Grizz, and especially the Bulls. Alot of people point out how the Spurs did it, and how the Rox of 84 did it. Thing is, the Spurs were without David at the time. Without David on that Spurs team, there was no team. Making it fairly easy to do so. The Rox team of the mid 80's didn't have the talent to win anyways. But this Rox team with Hakeem back, has too much talent not to win a handful of games more than the teams I listed. Another thing is, I don't see (at least not right now) any player in college who is even close to Tankable material. No Hakeems, No Jordans, and no Tim Duncans. Sorry Cabbage, I don't believe Porter is that level a player. [This message has been edited by thedreamshake99 (edited December 09, 1999).]
Dreamshake- how long until Dream comes back? I've heard it may be 8 weeks total. It that's the case we have at least 6 weeks to go (I think). I don't see us as a total bottom feeder team, and yeah probably above the 4 teams you noted. However I see us somewhere right above them, well below .500, well out of the playoffs. I see us with alot of talent, but still a couple years (and a lottery pick) away from being a mature, championship caliber team. Certainly not the worst in the NBA, but in for a long season this year.
It's not possible. They might have a horrible season, but they couldn't TRY to be worse than Chicago, Dallas and Co. That's not to say the Rockets won't be in the lottery. They may even get a lucky bounce. Regardless, the staff have alway done an excellent job in finding the best available play for the team in the draft. If they can get a Cuttino Mobley in the 2nd round. Think what they can do with a 8-13 pick. Doesn't anyone know our draft pick status for next year. Didn't we trade away our #1 and get Orlando's? Is that a conditional #1 sent to Vancouver? Is it a conditional from Orlando?
I say tank it. I think I've been quietly hoping for a spot in the playoffs and for the Rockets to suddenly come on strong and pull a '95 on everyone. An outside possibility perhaps. But without Barkley, we certainly do not have the guns for the championship. So why bother with the playoffs? As for out-losing bottom-feeders, remember that Charlotte got third pick despite almost making the playoffs. We can get a good draft pick without being worst in the league. And, as for a thin draft, they said that about the last draft and there are some pretty good players in there (Francis, Odom, Marion, etc.). Tank it.
Should the Rockets go in the TANK? Even if Hakeem and Big Sexy were healthy for the entire year, the Rockets were most likely not in the playoffs. Thus, we were always destined to be a lottery team this year. Now without Big Sexy for the rest of the year and the Dream for another six weeks, what little hope we had of beating Phoenix and Minnesota for the 8th playoff spot in the West is over. From here on out no matter how well we play, we will be lucky to win 1 out of 3. The Rockets will now be a solid lottery team with a very reasonable chance of getting a top lottery pick. The time is now to see how well the Rockets who have little pro experience can play (like Francis, Cato, Carlos, Thomas, Hambone, and Drew). Since Rudy and the team knows that there are no chance for the playoffs, this is a good time to bring in CBA players for 10 day trials, to sign Mack, and to make trades with next year in mind. Damn, I going to miss Big Sexy
With Barkley, we didn't have the talent of the Spurs, Lakers, Heat, or Portland. Without Barkley, we're going to be the best of the mediocre, imo. I think we should trade our vets (tmass, williams, mack), and try to reload for the next 3 years. I think that next year, with a nice draft pick, Houston could go places.
I would hate to see the Rockets tank it. Tanking becomes a nasty habit. Imagine if San Antonio had done that in a draft without Tim Duncan. Imagine if they hadn't gotten that first pick? Tanking becomes a habit. When the going gets tough someone will always call for the tank. Hey we can get a good player in the draft they say. Look at the Clippers, Warriors, and Mavs. They are continuously in the lottery. While we may get a better player out of it, I would rather build a tradition of rising in adversity than tanking in adversity.
What would we have to do to tank the season, bench Steve Francis? Young guys are all we've got. It's not like we're going to have to hold our vets out of games in order to lose games -- we don't have any vets. I would love to see Kenny Thomas start at power forward; not to get a good draft pick, but because he may be our best option.
DaDakota: This is not the same organization as you mentioned. you are thinking of the patterson team. this organization shows no signs of subscribing to the tanking philosophy. i'm a firm believer that trying to win every game is the only way to improve. Damn--I finally bought season tickets this year with a friend to see Francis grow. I don't know about you...but I want to see Francis, the team and the whole organization try to win every game they can. To me: that is the only way to nurture winning attitudes and all the other intangibles people forget about on draft day. I am soooo sad about this season. But, I've got my tickets and I will be watching every time Cato jumps at a headfake, every Vernon-esque mistake Mobley makes through overexuberance, every bit of confusion Anderson shows because he's not a perfect puzzle piece in Sloan's offense anymore, everytime Francis turnsaround looking for the leadership of Barkley to keep him focused for 48 minutes. I will be cheering for improvement. Steady results. How can you look at basketball any other way? Have some fun---cheer for WINS or become a Bulls fan for godsakes.
Yo JazzRULE. No matter how bad we suck , we will always have something you dont: TWO NBA TITLES!!!!!!!! Rockets Rule
Here's some proverbial fat for the Spazz man to chew on. The Rox were the Only team to have a winning record against MJ and the Bulls in the 90's. So are you saying they couldn't of beaten the bulls in a series. If so, you a bigger moron than your posts suggest. Idiot. What do you expect from a Spazz fan.
