They were debating this on the radio today and was just wondering what you guys think? NL pitchers practice hitting because they know they have to bat during the reg season, but now because of interleague plays AL pitchers has to bat and run the bases about 4-5 times a yr. Players like Carlos Hernandez got injured sliding into 2nd base and probably ruined a very good career. They also talked about how Pettittes, Colon and some others being injured like Wang over the weekend here while batting or running the bases. I think now with interleague play that it is time that the NL should start using the DH, and let pitcher just focus on pitching. Maybe the Astros wont suck so bad at the bottom of the order.
not just no...hell no. baseball players should play baseball. AL baseball cuts the strategy of the game in 1/2, at least.
F THAT pitchers are still baseball players... professional athletes they are already babied by playing less than 35 games a year. get over it. NL does use the DH when playing interleague in AL ballparks. and it's second base not place.
I don't really care one way or the other, but most organized baseball leagues around the globe use the DH. NL teams are inherently inferior in large part because of the lack of DH.
NL teams play NL teams. They play, what, four or five interleague series a year? The AL is better because they have better teams, just like the West is better than the East because they have better teams. There is nothing inherently inferior about a NL team because of their lack of a DH.
The DL is an abomination against nature. It should be banned from the AL as well as the NL, the minors, college baseball, independent leagues, negro leagues, Japanese baseball, Pop Warner leagues, and all prepubescent t-ball leagues on penalty of death.
God no. I looked at the thread title and thought that it would be about the NL having scheduled double-headers, because no self-loving real baseball fan would ever actually suggest letting more players avoid batting. The DH is one of the primary reasons for the wussification of American men over the past 35 years.
Not going into this argument again since it always turns into a pissing match between elitists. Both leagues should adopt both or either. The fact is, the DH gives the AL an advantage both away AND home.
Baseball players should play baseball, that means pitchers should just pitch, that is why they are called "picther". Hitting and running the base are position players' job. Don't mix it up! NL probably is the only league in the world without a DH. It is time to join the 21st century, people.
