Yes - we need another former Rice Owl on our team. The one we've got has worked out ok for us!! Cheito would be a nice fit to replace the washed up scrub we've got playing centerfield.

You would prefer to keep the current centerfielder over these two who are still young and can really help this team win

yes because those 2 aren't going to help the astros win anything. Carl Everett, 4 years ago was worth getting but not this version. Jose Cruz Jr. can't hit and isn't really an improvement from Biggio.

Carlos Beltran, there's a guy i would love to see wearing an astros uniform.

    Biggio - .264, .412 (Slug), .350 (OBP), 62 RBI, 102, R, 116 Ks
    Cruz - .250, .414., .366, 68 RBI, 90 R, 121 Ks

The only huge statistical difference between the two was Cruz walking 102 times vs. Biggio's 57, but Biggio's 27 HBP vs. Cruz's 0 closes the gap.

While the Astros could certainly use a younger, faster, better CF and leadoff man, Cruz is not much (if any) of an upgrade.

Thank you bobrek. Seems like many folks just want to make a move for the sake of making a move and refuse to look at the actual merits.

How about making room for Jayson Layne and put Biggio back on the bench? That still leaves us without a speedy centerfielder, which is a definite priority. I think Mike Cameron from the Seattle Mariners would be a great pick up for us at a managable price. Thought?

Hmmmm, I say lose Hidlago (if Drayton does indeed have to get rid of him or Wagner) and get Cruz.

    Why not? :D

thanks bobrek!!! where in the world do people get the idea that Jose Cruz, Jr. is Willie Mays...or even an upgrade from what we have. he's never performed like that...he's the son of a very good major league hitter...but that's about it.

If we need a replacement in the outfield, Jason Lane's available for free. On top of that, Biggio is merely a below-average starting outfielder - Brad Ausmus, on the other hand, might be the worst hitting starting catcher in the league. And I don't think Chavez is ready to be a full-time starter. And our pitching rotation's a mess.

What I'm saying is, it'd be dumb for the Stros to spend the cash to mildly upgrade their OF when there are so many other pressing areas on the club to address.

Pass on both...Dalgy should be gone this season...so that leaves Jason Lane...

I think people (myself included) would like to see Cruz Jr. because of his speed and potential. His numbers may be similiar to Biggio, but we all know Biggio isn't getting any better, where as Cruz still has plenty of years to flourish.

But then we would have to figure out what to do with Jason Lane, who appears to be a slightly better than average player at best.

Exactly what evidence are you basing this analysis on?
