Since the Texans need a running back what do yall think of jamaal charles? I don't know too much about him and have not seen him play. I believe he's a junior and would be eligible for the draft. Where do scouts project him? does anyone have a scouting report on him? What are his vitals? Is his style of play similar to anyone in the NFL?
I certainly wouldn't draft him that high in the first round (I'm assuming that we're drafting 10-15). We don't have a 2nd round pick and he'll most likely be gone by the third round. My guess is that he'd be somewhere around late first right now, but could move up based on the combine and workouts. He has great straight line speed, but I don't know if he can run between tackles. From what I've seen, I don't know if his game will translate that well to the NFL. Most likely his sucess will depend on the system that he's in. Off the top of my head, he's probably a combination of Willie Parker, Julius Jones and Justin Vargas from Oakland.
I think they mentioned he wants to go in the first round for sure so he plans on staying for his senior year.
He's fast, verrry fast. But he is inconsistent and injury prone a bit, from what I have seen of him. Consistency is the main thing for him in what I have seen/read of him.
I think he ran track in high school. Rumor has it that he ran a 4.25, but I really doubt he's THAT fast, 4.35 is more reasonable.
He was in the NCAA track and field finals about a year ago. So if he's healthy I wouldnt be surprised if he ran somewhere between a 4.28- 4.35
Fumble much? As a UT grad I live and die by the Horns. I love JC, but he fumbles at key moments in big games. Oh, he's also playing at Texas for his senior year.
As of now, he's said he's coming back. The fumbles got better as the season when on but I could see it coming back in the NFL. He's crazy fast and is a decent receiver out of the backfield. One more year to work on blocking and holding on to the ball will do him wonders. He's probably a first day pick right now, but could do better with another year...
he does have small hands which causes him to fumble. i'm pretty sure they will look to attack that even more in the NFL.
just found some video on this guy. Check out the very beginning of the video. Notice which NFL logo is being displayed in the background.....that would be cool if that was a sign of things to come. You Tube Video of Stewart
I saw that . That sure was a packed house at that Stanford game . The Texans definitely need a RB . This Stewart kid looks pretty good .
I would consider drafting him if he is available at a low 2nd round pick. You can't teach speed, and he has plenty. However, he needs to show that he can hang on to the ball. In addition, he'll need to develop some lower body strength if he is going to be an every down back. I am also a bit concerned that he runs a bit high, and will be prone to big hits in the NFL. Regardless, his speed and acceleration would entice me to draft him at the low 2nd round or 3rd round. If he stays another year, he could perhaps develop into a premier prospect next year.
I can't see the Texans using their first round pick on a RB. This is the year we finally sure up the LT spot, right? There are some good LT prospects that should be available in our range of picks (13-18).
The Texans don't have a second round pick. I doubt Charles is coming out, he ain't Vince (Mack's player don't traditionally come out) It's early but Drafttek, http://www.drafttek.com/round12008.html has us taking Rashard Mendenhall from Illinois. I'd never heard of him but he was the Big 10 player of the year as a juniour this year. Oddly though, in their player rankings they have McFadden #2 and then don't have another running back until Johnathon Stewart (above) ranked as the 42nd best player. It seems that if you were going to draft a running back in the first (which I doubt) you might get Chris Johnson who could be every bit as good as Reggie Bush.
The Texans should pick BPA. RB, OT, DB are the priorities. If we have a chance to draft a stud RB, we should do it. With our OL being a liablity, maybe we should get a LT via free agency. Any solid FA OT's available this upcoming off-season?
Not even close. This draft... 1.) Darren McFadden everyone else is a distant 2nd. Mendenhall is a beast, he can catch the ball out of the backfield... probably would fit in well as a Texan. I think Stewart is overrated personally, you see he wasn't able to do jack for that team after Dixon went down. Kevin Smith from UCF is also a stud.
I want this guy: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UqR299tgWD4&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UqR299tgWD4&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> If he comes out, he should last until the Texans pick in the 3rd round.
The Texans may want to trade down from their first pick. There are some good OTs listed in the 2nd round from your drafttek link, and if they can get an extra 3rd, they should be able to get some depth at DB and RB.
