With Pat being out for the GS game, it being the first true western playoff team test and our team currently unbeaten should Terry start at the PG position to avoid Stephen Curry running circles around Canaan? I know that he has seen his better years but he is a vet who has been around a long time and is a much smarter defender than Canaan, both on 1 on 1 situations and team defensive manuevers.
No, Canaan fits better with the starters. He has enough legs not to be terrible on defense, and his offense improves so much more having Harden and Howard as stabilizing forces. The Canaan-Dwight pick-n-roll is really good. Finally, Terry at this point is doing a better job generating his own offense. You need a steady vet coming off the bench, and right now Terry is that guy for us.
Am I the only one who thought Canaan was great against the Spurs? He played hard all game. I was not looking forward to having him on the roster coming into this season but I was wrong
Same here. I thought he was at least half a season away from contributing, but the dude has stepped up. I'd give Canaan the start because he deserves it with the way he's been playing and it would be good experience for him. Also, it would keep Terry fresh for the duration of the game.
Canaan's on ball defence has been great this year, no one has had a good game against him. -rondo -Parker -spud Miami guards
No. Canaan starts, he has played decent, he did okay guarding Tony. But Steph is a straight shooter, can Contest shots and hit the open 3. Agree it starts with Team Defense. It'll be a good game. #RedNation
Or, you could just do the reasonable thing and don't post this and leave the decision up to the Rockets coaching staff. And no, starting Terry at PG in the twilight of his career will not be a good move against a very young athletic Curry. Let Canaan chase that bad boy around while the Rockets team defense does their thing. Bring Terry in with the second unit to stabilize them and add continuity and veteran leadership.
No, he is not quick enough to stay with Curry. We have to just settle with Cannan. He isn't Beverly on defense but I think he will be good enough, if Harden, Dwight and co can have a bigger influence than Curry.
I've been really impressed with him actually, but I don't think he's quite up to guarding top 10 guards in the league even though he has a pretty good Lowry-esque build.
I actually want to see Nick Johnson guard Curry for a bit - he's more athletic than Canaan and JET. But I don't think Terry can guard Curry better than Canaan can. If Terry was 10 years younger, sure.
Isaiah has proven to me at least from what I've seen that he has the quickness to stay in front of any pg. Overall it's team defense and that's why we're winning. He should start because Terry is that scorer you need in the second unit. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
