i know, i know. you know i don't like shandn. but seriously, with the new rules changes, what the hell can shandn bring to a team? he's a guard who can't shoot and can't penetrate. his overrated post up game - against a zone defense - would be a joke. his overrated defense would be no better than any other houston guard (including matt bullard), considering you could play an area zone. plus you could hand check. seriously, kelvin cato is worth more to this team - NOW - than shandn is. can anyone see positives shandn could bring to the court next year? for ANY TEAM??? if not, maybe he could start broadcasting.... ------------------ Lt. Shandon's argument is it will force uptempo games the rely on scoring before defenses set. Shandon likes to run as hard as he can to get prime low post position before anyone else. He wants the ball there for a quick strike before the 5 defenders get set. Francis continues to ignore that as the best option on the secondary break. oh well!
Man come on. Shandon is way to young to retire and is not that horrible. You have the right to bash him though, but at least spell his name right. It is Shandon not Shandn which you used throughout your post. ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
i smell what you're sayin' heyp, but... given the horses we have shandn isn't exactly the number one choice on the break. IMO, the choice on a break goes to guys who can both hit a layup and hit the pull up jumper. also, i'd look for a guy who can pull it back out if need be. as for the secondary break, yea, he could go for the quick strike post, but, i think rudy & co. would rather see a quick 2 Shakes than a quick shandn post up. ------------------ Lt. Rocket Fan: stacey augmn and shandn have been rendered useless by the nba with these rules changes. what good is a player who gives 0 on offense and isn't a good shot blocker or rebounder on defense? especially considering the rules changes? maybe he can take kenny smith's place on tnt, cause he could bring more to this rocket's team than shandn can now.
Surely the zone will not be used on every play?! ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan. Protrolls.com!
JuanValdez: (smooch) ZRB: you're right, it won't. but i thought he was pretty close to useless this year. i shudder at the prospects of him next year. seriously, let's forget it's shandn. do you think portland could use stacey augmn next year? what could he bring to the floor for them? do you see my point? he and shandn are the same player. this year, they were good for spot minutes. next year, they'll be good for spot cleaning and mopping...
HP, I really don't see this postup by Shandon on the secondary break. The only time I see him postup is in 24 high, and I do see him get pissed when he doesn't get the ball sometimes in this play, but I don't see the post up you're referring to. ------------------
There is definitely no post up on the strong side of the PNR...24-High is a two man game. The post up I am talking about is the one that cause the Francis/Shandon "feud" in the LA game. Shandon is the first one down the court on a fastbreak very often. The fastbreak is not there as a 4 on 4 is forming and quickly turning into a half-court set. So Shandon runs through and under the basket to set up low post position for a quick strike. Francis then waves him off. TPL, this is not a play, this is a fastbreak shifting rapidly into a secondary break. Francis usually has the call on whether to attack with a secondary break (and which option, whether it is a trailer, himself, or a swing for a three or weakside option, or Shandon in the low post). Not to say all those are available each time, but those have all happened.
I just don't see Shandon's post up being enough of a regularity for it to even be an issue.... ------------------
I'm just trying to figure how he envisions himself in uptempo, and why he always runs to the low post.
Shandon shouldn't retire because we'll need him to give Dan Langhi game breathers, next year. ------------------
verse.. oh you are intentionally spelling his name... with no O because he provides no offense? sorry about that then. i just figured you were someone who just didn't take the time to figure out how to spell his name ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
This is ridiculous. I don't know why you hate the guy, almost personally, but whatever floats your boat I guess. ------------------ See the three, be the three.
