I heard a comedian make a comment, but it was kind of provocative: Why can a woman "own her own body" and get an abortion on that basis but a woman can't "own her own body" and engage in prostitution on that basis. Obviously, there are other factors.... so discuss!
I believe Denmark has this and they are able to track the health of the prostitutes and also able to get tax $. There is also less crimes committed and because the prostitutes are somewhat under the watch of the government, they are in safer hands then when prostitution is illegal.
sure, and not just women, but men as well. there's a measure on the ballot to decriminalize prostitution in SF this election.
It probably shouldn't. All of the things you can give someone, an orgasm is hardly the worst thing you can give. But what goes along with prostitution? Drugs? Murders? It's more of a way looking out for the women that sell their body. However, arresting the women for doing it probably rarely cleans them up.
I say no! It sounds good, but it would lead to a massive breakout of S.T.D's.I think there would also be a higher drop out rate in the inner cities and urban areas, because it would be easier for a young to make $900 a night on the cornor, instead of sitting in class...just my opinion on this issue.
If prostitution was decriminalized it would have to apply to male prostitution under the gender discrimination laws.
STDs: Have prostitutes get mandatory health screenings every month (they do this in vegas), also, what prostitute is gonna "work" without a condom? School: Then that's their decision to make, and a lot of them already make it at strip clubs. But don't you think that the price of legalized sex would go down should it become legal? You wouldn't see a ton of girls scrambling to go ride the meat pony for 20 bucks an hour....
That's like saying that legalizing restaurants would lead to massive outbreaks of foodpoisoning. Under a legal regime like what they have in Amsterdam prostitutes would likely have to submit to STD testing and regulations could also mandate condom usage. As for suddenly having a lot of young get into the oldest profession instead of studying for another one considering prostitution is legal in NV UNLV still has students.
How about legalizing slavery; in my opinion, prostitution is just as dehumanizing. I view both as basic human rights issues, so I vote, no. Just because something exists and even flourishes does not mean it is "right" and should be sanctioned by the larger society. Then it becomes, age of consent, then what? Does "civilization" have any meaning anymore?
Uh. How are slavery and prostitution the same thing? Prostitution is employment. Services provided in exchange for currency or goods. I think you need to go re-read what slavery is. Dehumanizing? As in, they don't have a choice? Are second-class citizens? Well now, I think legalizing it basically gets rid of that problem seeing as how they have the FREE WILL to engage in a socially accepted and legally permitted service that keeps them a functioning, contributing member of society.
