Van Gundy has two years remaining on his contract, and only next season is guaranteed.

    -------------------------------------------------
So he will probably be a lame-duck coach next year if his contract is not extended in the summer? What should we do now? You feel confident he will ultimately lead us to the title so that his contract should be extended now? Or we should use "wait and see" approach until next season? Or he should be fired now?

    Discuss!

Lame-duck season is the right description. I didn't know his extension is not guaranteed.

In this case, JVG could be replaced in the middle of next season if the team still stays mediocre.

Of course we can't fire him and we also should not extend him with this living hell of a season.

He obviously doesn't think long-term. So, why should the Rockets give him incentive to think long term?

After such stupidity as to-Night - Fire him NOW! Under no circumstances
let him coach even the last game of the season. Make sure that he takes Patrick Ewing and coach Ward back to New York City, along with his favourite players Howard and Bowan!!!

WTF. Extending JVG right now would make about as much sense as trying to win a meaningless game, dropping us a couple spots in the lottery, against an opponent that has obviously thrown in the towel. Oops.

Bring Rudy back to coach with Elie as an assistant for a couple years until he's ready to take over.

JVG is nobodys friend. If JVG was an ice cream flavor, he'd be prailines and dick.

Extending CD made no sense, why reward ten years of futility? Why the huge effort to resign Lindsey? The personnel decisions of this team's mangement have been horrible. Why reward failure? And it is amazing how JVG has alienated the fans. I think most assume he is a basketball "brain," but he is very unpopular on this board, and I would not be surprised if "fire him now" wins the poll. This organization is in a mess despite all the smoke that L.A. is trying to blow up our butts. Big trouble in H-Town, and if TMac and Ming don't come back from their injuries, well, roll up the carpet cause the party is really over.

Yeah, fire this evil capitalist's arse.

Seriously, being not able to win may just be not capable enough, but not knowing when to lose is just strategic-less.

i give the guy one year, next season, to show his wares.

if we're healthy and he comes with that bland half court bollocks we need to off him by mid season.

I really think we should sign another coach now after today's game! It's ridiculous to try and win a game at this time! JVG is too damn stupid and rigid!

hell no! i say let him pack now!

you can't win when you must and can't lose when you should have? what the hell?

actually i don't lay all the responsibilities of this miserable season to him alone, although he's a big part of it. i was finally sold during last playoffs. let's face it, he was outcoached by a rookie coach named johnson. can you believe it, with all his experiences and reputation he had nothing more to offer coming to critical times. shame. and don't give me the keith-von-horn's-out-so-the-mavs-beat-us-crap.

the earlier the rockets parted ways with jvg the better chances they have for championships.

No, it shouldn't be extended this off-season. If he's staying, he needs to prove he's worth keeping next season. Next off-season they can decide if they want to take the option on the upcoming season and/or extend him. But if we keep him both years, I see no reason we should extend him before the end of those two years. A whole lot can happen between now and then.

id prefer it if jvg would resign to go play with stan's kids ;/

but seeing as how hes getting a free pass this season i dont think hes leaving :(

personally i think rick adelman would coach the rockets pretty well.

yao swift tmac rafer would be interesting in the offensive schemes that rick runs

why extent the contract now? It hasn't run out yet. Let him prove something first.
