I was sorta wondering what the people on the bbs think I should do. I am debating wether or not I should get an Ipod or not, my roomate has one and uses it frequently. I listen to music a lot, and I was just thinking I could put all my cds onto one thing so I wouldnt have to worry about digging out and replacing each cd everytime I wanna listen to something else. I dont know if I wanna shell out $300 for one though. Do you guys think it would be worth it if I put it to use? Also I heard somewhere about the battery life on Ipods arent that great. Any responses are appreciated.
all the cool kids have one. I'd get one if i had some cash. dell has an mp3 player out also. i forgot the name of it, and the specs.
I've had one for a couple of years now and use it everyday, I don't think I could live without it now. The battery life has been fine for me, one charge lasts about 8 hours. Listening while drive back and forth to work and while driving around town it'll last a little less than a week without charging it. When I'm on a trip I'll charge it everyday which is reasonable. I would definitely recomend it.
Well, do you really plan to listen to music outside of your dorm much? I mean I don't (in part because I'm at one of the 6 schools to have FREE Napster, but limited to downloads; can't transfer to a CD or mp3), but most of the people that I see using their iPod usefully is when they run or jog or workout or drive or study in the study lounge. I wouldn't spend that much money on something, but I was discussing this with a friend yesterday. Soon enough, when and if music pirating ever comes under control, the entire music industry will collapse. There seems to be, in my opinion, a very very gradual shift to digital music-player data rather that compact disc players. With that, it's easier to get the music out and a hell of a lot cheaper than mass producing CDs. Anyway, once people can't download their music for free, no one will buy mp3 players. I'd bet that more than most would say a reason to be willing to spend upwards of $500 on a music player is the fact that they know they can get their music for free; the player pays for itself. Once that's the case no more, everyone will be screwed (okay maybe not that drastic, but it will have an affect).
I don't think the music industry will collapse. But they will have to reinvent themself if they want to stay in business. I think that instead of the traditional model of radio airplay and touring in order to promote the album and make money off selling CDs. They will have to share music and get radio airplay in order to promote the tour and make money off of live concerts. Bands that already make plenty of money off their tours will be ahead of the curve.
Wow seems a lot of people seem to enjoy theirs, I will give it some more thought, I imagine a 20GB should give me plenty of space, but $300 is a pretty big chunk of dough to cough out.
Honestly, I use it everywhere on campus. I have two one-hour breaks every day and I pop it on while studying. I even got a monster cable hooked up to my car radio so I could listen to my iPod in there on long drives (instead of carrying CD's).
Get a Dell DJ. Not quite as nice but I got mine for $129 and the battery last twice as long as the ipod.
I'm about to buy one of these bad boys, mainly because the Ipod doesn't play WMA's, not to mention the 24 hour battery life. http://creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=10274
If you have spare cash, go for it. But for me, a CD player that can play mp3 format CD is plenty enough.
i used to be anti-ipod until i got one. Those 3 hour gaps in between classes at UH don't seem so long any more.
Another plus is that college students get a $30 discount off the Ipod. $270 doesn't seem nearly as daunting as $300 (at least for me).
No. http://store.apple.com/ Go to education.$269 for the 20GB, $369 for the 40GB. They do charge sales tax though. If you are willing to go with a refurb, it looks like the 20GB third gen unit (non-clickwheel) can be had for as little as $250.
