I just heard this talk on Rula and Ryan Show. What do you guys think? I say yes, definitely! Since I go to school at UH, it's only about a half hour drive.
Heck yes....stop the flow of Texas gambling monies to Louisiana, keep the taxes in Texas. And, Galveston is drivable from Austin. A SOLID heck yes from me. DD
Well they said that some casino (I think in Biloxi) generates $3 billion in revenue and hires 15,000 people. Since people drive to Louisiana to gamble anyways, why not do it here in Texas, our home state? It's also closer to us than any Louisiana casino.
If they had Casinos on the Island it would probably be a lot further along towards being rebuilt by now. DD
i wanted to start a thread on Indian Casinos, but haven't really done research. Would you also support Native American Casinos in the big Thicket?
No, Don't take away monies from my hometown! I mean yes, I was just joking, absolutely, let those Louisianians die withouth the gambling money
Hell yes. I no longer will have to drive to Lake Charles once a month to get my blackjack fix taken care of. Hell - I'm going the Monday after Christmas to spend a day gambling... A monthly drive to Galveston would be much more palatable.
We all know the statistics except we never read them! 1) Who are paying parts of the $3 billiions? You. 2) If the logic is people will drive to LA anyhow, then why do you want it in Galveston? Because it is closer. Because it is easier to get to. Hence you will go more often. Hence you will pay a bigger share of that $3 billion. Ask yourself, when gambling was just in LV, how often did u go? When gambling moved into LA, did you go more often? If gambling moves to Galveston, guess what u will do?
onlines bull****, i cant make reads or bluff at all. Not old enough for regular casino... an indian reservation casino would work. Not sure if there are any near Atx
I used to live in St. Louis. Illinois right across the Mississippi had riverboat gambling and there was something on the Mississippi that was no more than 20 minutes away. As someone who has no interest in gambling, it wasn't so bad. If you could come up with something self limiting and compartmentalized like 'only on riverboats' I could appreciate that, especially if a significant portion of the tax revenue went to a State fund to deal with gambling addiction. Illinois also has a 'self-exclusion' law, where you can register yourself, and will be arrested for trespassing if you try to enter a riverboat, which is great for people who have an addiction. I would be against anything that turned Texas into a statewide gambling free-for-all. I remember flying out of Vegas and seeing people dropping their last few coins into the slot machines in the airport on the way out of town. That was just sad.
If the citizens of Galveston want it, sure, but I can see them not wanting to change the look and feel of their community. We had a vote up here for casinos in Omaha four years ago; because all the casinos are over in Council Bluffs, Iowa; and it lost.
