Cops need guns. People want guns if cops have guns because the idea of living in a police state scares them. It's all or nothing. We still don't know the side effects of Adderall Nation, but this seems to be one of them.
I do not think that is the reason. It is just a tradition, we have always had guns in this country, that's what many people want in the future. Even if we have a mass shooting in public place everyday for a year I don't think much is going to change.
Unless we can change people from being intrinsically violent, nothing will change. Whether everyone has guns, or nobody has guns; people will still find a way to kill each other.
This is supposed to be embedded, but I don't see the player... here's footage from Ch. 13 WTHR in Indianapolis: <script type='text/javascript' src='http://WTHR.images.worldnow.com/interface/js/WNVideo.js?rnd=22759;hostDomain=www.wthr.com;playerWidth=630;playerHeight=355;isShowIcon=true;clipId=9752556;flvUri=;partnerclipid=;adTag=News;advertisingZone=;enableAds=true;landingPage=;islandingPageoverride=false;playerType=STANDARD_EMBEDDEDscript;controlsType=overlay;galleryType=wnstory;galleryId=24508232'></script><a href="http://www.wthr.com" title="13 WTHR Indianapolis">13 WTHR Indianapolis</a> <script type='text/javascript' src='http://WTHR.images.worldnow.com/interface/js/WNVideo.js?rnd=119138;hostDomain=www.wthr.com;playerWidth=630;playerHeight=355;isShowIcon=true;clipId=9752556;flvUri=;partnerclipid=;adTag=News;advertisingZone=;enableAds=true;landingPage=;islandingPageoverride=false;playerType=STANDARD_EMBEDDEDscript;controlsType=overlay;galleryType=wnstory;galleryId=24508232'></script><a href="http://www.wthr.com" title="13 WTHR Indianapolis">13 WTHR Indianapolis</a>
Horrific. This hits close to home considering that I graduated from Purdue and pretty much went to the EE building everyday for one class or another
Chicago was "handgun free" for years and years, yet murder after murder happens. Mental illness awareness is terrible in the US - which has a lot to do with it. The Swiss have tons of guns, and very low crime. http://world.time.com/2012/12/20/the-swiss-difference-a-gun-culture-that-works/ The problem for the vast majority of violence in America is poverty and the war on drugs. Simple as that. Decriminalize drugs, you end drug violence - just look at Portugal.
