Let me preface by saying I am a big Astros fan. I know he can help. I actually work in Minute Maid Park and I know the difference he can make in energy and all kinds of other intangibles. I guess I do hope he signs with us, but on a personal level. I just don't care anymore.

I've just grown tired of the yearly "Will he play, and if so where" drama. I understand his right as a first ballot HOF'er to do this ritual every year.

But I am excercizing my right as a 36 year old who has been a baseball fan for 33 years, not to care.

    O.k flame away.

I'm not going to flame you, hell I agree with you whole-heartedly.

I'd be more excited to see Pence and Patton come up to the big club and help us win.

I'd be excited to see both.

I take the same approach with Roger that I take with most acquisitions. Is he likely to help this team on the field? If the acquisition is, then I want him on the team, and given Roger's 2.30 ERA as a starter, he's likely to help the team. I want him here. It'd be awesome if he could handle the situation better, but my first concern is whether the player is likely to help the team win, not how nice a guy he is.

There are obviously limits to that philosophy (Terrell Owens, Ron Artest), but clearly Clemens is nowhere even remotely close to that level.

I don't want that fat old man holding the team hostage anymore either. Let him go to the Yankees with his f***** buddy Andy.

How is he doing that? He told the Astros and all other teams to consider him retired and plan without him, and if he decides to come back, treat it as a bonus. Furthermore, the Astros have stated time after time that the money they pay for Clemens is completely separate from the rest of the payroll. I'm not sure how he's holding this team hostage.

It makes logical sence, to want Roger back. Our 2nd best pitcher is on the DL...Williams is on the downside, our back 2 are unproven. He pays for himself. Honestly I am surprised I don't want him, I did the last couple years. But this year I don't.

i'd rather him just retire . . . for good . . . i like the guy . . . he could help out the stros . . .but we need to get out of the habit that we don't have to be the best we can be at the beginning of the season (cause superman will come and save us).

Even with roger on this team, our pitching is still lacking. We shoulda spent Lee's money on more pitching.

I have never believed this. If the Astros are going to pay him $20M plus, they factor that into the payroll. It isn't a situation where they have as much of a payroll as they would ordinarily and then come up with the extra money if Rocket signs. The possibility naturally effects the overall opening day payroll.

I'm exercising my right not to care what you think. I want Roger back and it's important to this team, and to me as a fan.

You're wrong. It is exactly "the situation where they have as much of a payroll as they would ordinarily and then come up with the extra money if Rocket signs". If Rocket retired during the winter, they weren't going to increase their payroll any more than they already did. That has been stated many times. Rocket's anticipated salary isn't holding the Astros back from adding to their roster.

Roger would be a fool to return to the Astros if all he wants is to win a championship. I bet he goes to NY again.

I agree this drama is annoying as heck and Roger is full of himself. But I knew that when the Astros first got him.

In the end, it would be good to have him. For now I will ignore the BS.

Roger would be especially foolish to return to the Yankees if all he wants is to win a championship.

I definitely want Roger back. I'm as tired of his self-love as anyone, he's still a great talent. I can ignore all of the media about him. I won't deliver a Hummer to his driveway. But if he wants to play for the Astros, I'll be glad to see him every fifth day.

I will care about Roger Clemens again if and when he signs with the Astros, and not a day earlier.

Don't blame Rocket for the "drama". Blame ESPN. They talk Yankees/Red Sox 24/7, so they will always mention Clemens. Roger is not capable of playing 162 games. I don't want him to play 162 games, unless you're a fan of HOF pitchers falling apart.

If you don't like the drama, stop watching ESPN.

I would so much us rather use his half season pro-rated salary and get a big time slugger to back up Lee and Berkman who would actually play a full season everyday for the same amount of money. We still can't score runs with Everett, Ausmus, the pitcher slot, and a lack of clutch hitting.

Even if Roger could win another Cy Young with us in half a year and throw a few no hitters at the same time, but he'd still be lucky to have double digit wins without anyone scoring when he pitches a grand 6 innings. Or in the off chance he leaves with a lead, we have 50/50 odds we'll blow it for him. So other than hype, i just don't see the impact.

But then who will back up the new big time slugger. Will we then need to go out and sign another big time slugger to back up the first big time slugger? When does it end?

  STOP THE INSANITY!!!

If they have all this money sitting around just for Roger, than how can Uncle Drayton claim he's losing money year after year.

The Astros organization is so damn shady at times and deserve to lose.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Astros and Berkman and all....but I hate Drayton and think Pupura is the worst GM in baseball!
