http://sports.espn.go.com/wnba/columns/story?columnist=voepel_mechelle&id=5749137 Sad story. Sheryl Swoopes was the man.
The WNBA is probably a little more preoccupied with other things, like keeping the league from going bankrupt, as opposed to "anointing a legend" or whatever this piece is trying to get at.
She was a really great player. Sad to see her getting disrespected. Any chance this might have to do with her coming-out?
Just another egotistical professional athlete. The league doesn't owe her anything. She should just drift off into the sunset quietly and be happy with whatever money she made playing the game.
Wow. Not that she lost her money, plenty of athletes do that. But how did she manage to make that much in the first place playing in a league nobody gives a crap about?
It doesn't help that the team she played for no longer exists. Without that, it's hard to find a platform to honor her.
I had no idea until you posted this that the Comets no longer existed. I guess that shows how much attention I pay to the WNBA.
