The downtown aquarium is a rip off at $9.25 per person for about 11 tanks of fish through a tunnel that takes 30 minutes MAX to slowly walk through and take pictures of. If you were considering taking the family, go to the Houston Zoo instead. WEAK!
i've heard report after report saying the same thing. i wish we had a legit downtown aquarium, like NOLA. like your signature, mulder. i'm participating in the h2o project right now... www.theh20project.org
It's a nice place for a date though. Take a stroll through the aquarium. Have a nice dinner. Ride the ferris wheel.. Then drinks across the street at Bayou Place.
IMO everything Tilman and the Landry’s group own blows, they even managed to make the food at Grotto taste like mass produced fast food.. I swore off everything Landry’s after being suckered into going to "The Boardwalk", that place is a total joke..
My wife and I got talked in to going to the Kemah one a few months ago. It was horrible. We might as well ate at Walmart with all the stupid kids running around etc. The fake coral walls were funny, my wife commented that it felt like we were eating in Fred Flinstone's house. The food was a joke too. STAY AWAY!!!
I cannot stand Fillman Tertitta and his pathetic excuses for restaurants. The last straw for me was the Grotto. The only thing that hasn't been ruined on the Grotto's menu is their pizza. I will never set foot in the Aquarium, Vic & Anthony's, or anything else owned by him. There are too many great restaurants in Houston that he has nothing to do with, and those are the ones that will get my money.
I enjoy going to the Downtown Aquarium and the Kemah Boardwalk. I can't afford to do it every week, but two or three times a year. We even did Thanksgiving lunch at the Downtown Aquarium last year, expensive but good. I hadn't had a bad meal at any of Tillman's restaurants. Given that I was ordering seafood at each that is saying a lot.
They bought some real estate on the SA Riverwalk and evicted 3 homegrown restaurants so they can put in one of their generic steakhouses.
When was this? You know which restaurants? That really sucks. He destroyed Kemah; the Riverwalk was kinda headed in that direction already, but...
When Fertitta decided to circumvent the city and get a permit from the FAA so he could land his helicopter on the roof only feet from the Pearce Elevated AND when he again circumvented the city and managed to get a permit to be a licensed zoo just so he could keep captive tigers that deserve a lot better life than the cramped, ****ty conditions he gives them, it became my intention never to patronize the Acquarium or any other of his restaurants.
I think everyone is too hard on Fertitta. While he has definitely made mistakes, he has also had good ideas, also. At least he's trying different and outlandish stuff. He's kind of like a r****ded Judge Roy Hofheinz. I give him more slack than most people, and I think y'all should also. He has improved over the years. Vic & Anthony's is one of the best Steakhouses in town.
that aquarium is a complete joke and same goes for the Kemah boardwalk. Niether are worth going to. I've been to the downtown aquarium but havn't eaten there. But, I've heard from everyone the food sucks
it's a crappy aquarium, and i've been to plenty in all my travels....... they had some very bizarre tank set-ups, including some oscars in a community tank, that were cornering and terrorising fish.... i pointed this out to them and they were like 'what are you talking about?'
Captain O'Hagan: I swear to God I'm going to pistol whip the next guy who says, " Shenanigans." Mac: Hey Farva what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy **** on the walls and the mozzarella sticks? Farva: You mean Shenanigans? Mac: OOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Thorny: OOOOOOOOOOOOOO. [as they hand the Captain their pistols]
When I went to the Aquarium this summer (only because HP had an all expenses paid event there for our department), I couldn't for the life of me figure out what white tigers were doing there. Talk about bizarre. But hey, at least the ferris wheel was mildly fun.
This is quite funny. I'm not commenting on how Fertitta's restuarants are/are not crappy...I could care less. But I've lived in the area all my life, and Kemah was an ugly, dirty, mean place for years and years. It was the joke of the bay area. What TF did was revitalize a small town and made it a nice place to visit, regardless of the prices or the methods he uses. Destroyed Kemah? Not in my opinion
