so there was a fight? Kobe and mike miller get into it. Kobe leaves with a bloody eye after miller elbows him , comes back and fragrantly fouls miller by elbowing him in the neck. Just saw on ESPN, what exactly happened? Anyone got this on video? would love to see it.
In the 2nd, Miller drove to the hoop and was fouled by Kobe. But Miller hit Kobe with his left arm on the drive (it looked incidental) and Kobe got stiches over his eye. In the 3rd, Miller drove again and kicked the ball out to beyond the three point line. Kobe stepped up to Miller and leveled him with a forearm to the chin (well after Miller's pass). Somehow, Kobe was only given a Intentional-1 rather than an ejection. The replay showed that it was a flagrant retaliation. I say this as a Griz fan, but it was beyond obvious that Kobe was trying to retaliate for Miller's previous hit. I actually was disappointed that the Griz players didn't try to take Kobe out after his cheap shot b/c it was so blatant. Fratello later got his first technical of the season and Eddie Jones was ejected after a foul call. Somehow the Griz won in OT, but it was one of those strange games where the refs were giving the home team every benefit (at least until after Jones' ejection). I never liked Kobe, but that cheap shot was something I'd expect from someone like Fortson.
This is what the LA Times had to say: It was a physical game for both teams, with players coming and going because of injuries and ejections. Bryant took an elbow on a drive by Memphis forward Mike Miller that caused an inch-long gash near his left eye with 9:40 left in the third. "I'll be back," he yelled as he walked off the court with Laker trainer Gary Vitti. Bryant backed up his pledge, returning with 7:01 left in the quarter and a bandage to the left of his eye, with three stitches to come after the game. Bryant was later called for a flagrant foul when he rapped Miller with a forearm to the chin as Miller drove the lane with 8:24 left in the fourth quarter. "Any player that was going to come down the lane at that particular time, I was going to let them know that they just can't walk through here," Bryant said. "I think we as a team have to do a better job of establishing that, and me as the leader of the ballclub, I have to take initiative to do that. "Hopefully everybody else will see that, especially this being our home court. People come here and think it's Hollywood and all this other stuff and they'll come down and look pretty and shoot jump shots and dunk the ball and stand over the ball and all this other cute stuff. We've got to stop that." Mihm also left briefly because of a bruised left knee but finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
If the situation was reversed and Miller hit Kobe with the forearm shiver in the middle of the lane, Miller would be suspended for a few games. I see no way the NBA suspends Kobe. I actually think that Kobve getting hit was unintentional. Miller was driving to the hoop and got fouled. As he got fouled, his arm flew up and caught Kobe on the side of the head. Anyway, Kobe forced a terrible reverse layup for the last shot. Only fitting he makes a terrible decision to close the game after missing 24 of 37 shots.
kobe an assclown. he needs to shut up. if the nba doesn't suspend him, it will be the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard of.
uh, if I took 37 shots and 19 ft at a pickup game at the local Y, I might drop 45+ too... granted the competition is a little different
Man, I just saw that shot that Kobe gave Miller, eh, that was about as dirt a play I've seen in a long time. I will be shocked if he doesn't get suspended or at least a fine
Bryant suspended for 2 games for elbowing Miller Bryant suspended for two games for elbowing Memphis' Miller in throat Associated Press NEW YORK — Kobe Bryant was suspended for two games without pay Friday for elbowing Mike Miller in the throat. During Wednesday's 101-99 loss to Memphis, the Lakers guard was called for a flagrant foul with 8:24 to play for elbowing Miller. After the game, Bryant was unapologetic. He had been gashed over his left eye in the second quarter when Miller pushed him in the face with his hand; the cut required three stitches. "Any player that was going to come down the lane at that point in time, I was going to let him know that he just can't walk through there," Bryant said. "I think we as a team have to do a better job of establishing that. And me, as a leader of the ballclub, I've got to take the initiative to do that — and hopefully, everybody will see that. "This being our home court, people come here and think it's Hollywood and all sorts of stuff, so they think they'll come down (the lane) and look pretty and shoot jump shots and dunk the ball and finger-roll the ball and do all sorts of cute stuff. And we've got to stop that." Bryant is scheduled to serve his suspension Sunday, when the Lakers host Utah, and Tuesday, when Los Angeles plays at the Jazz. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3556562.html
