Both matchup problems for the other team when they actually play hard. At their best, when they aren't taking the night off, who's better? <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BrOH-KHxXg0&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BrOH-KHxXg0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/O-3Pm2Z_RDw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/O-3Pm2Z_RDw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Rasheed was a beast in his prime (Washington - Detroit). I could say that Rasheed was a winner and big part of why alot of his teams won and he might also be borderline HOF. After Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett, he might be the third best defender at power forward and fourth or fifth best player behind Webber and Nowitzki. When he was in Portland, you could say he was a prime time player. There was never alot of weakness in his game, except that he was probably becoming better off as 2nd will. If he shows up in the Finals, I think Boston takes this thing, easily. Odom is a good talent, but he benefited alot from being LA with Kobe. I think he has good size with good athleticism and good moves, but he is not as good as shooter or defender as Wallace was.
I never thought showing up was Sheeds biggest problem. Being too unselfish was his biggest problem IMO.
Rasheed Wallace's defense alone is worth taking him over Odom. Odom has his moments but it's far and few in between for a player of his talent and skill level. Wallace's defense during his earlier years was sick. He's the only player I've ever seen that could defend both Garnett and Duncan well. It's funny because I always thought both to be players that didn't really give a damn until something lit a fire under their asses.
Damn, he eats too much candy! Watch when he retires, all that sugar is gonna catch up to him. I'm suprised he hasn't had diabetes yet.
Rasheed Wallace is a borderline HOF player? That's ridiculous. This is a 6-11 power forward who averaged less than 8 rebounds per game at his peak! Yes, he was a really good defensive player most of the time. He may have helped a lot of teams win, but he was just as big a reason why all of his teams (except one year in Detroit) eventually lost. His Portland teams underachieved largely because he was a hothead who lost his cool or disappeared in big moments. The Pistons may have missed out on back-to-back titles because Rasheed decided to leave Robert Horry wide open for the Game 5 winner in 2005.
Though, he was fantastic defender and averaged nearly 20 ppg in his prime. Also, I said borderline, I did not say he was a HOF. Webber, KG, Nowitzki, and Duncan are the sure bets. But someone, like Gasol, Oakley, or even the other Wallace (Ben), are what you would consider borderline players. I think Rasheed is better than those last four players.
Odom, even though sheed is the better powerforward when he's not being a headcase, Odom can play almost any position and that versatility is great.
I'm going to guess that some posters did not watch Sheed in Portland or briefly with the Bullets (in his rookie year).
Talent wise Sheed is the best PF I have ever seen: Post almost as good as TD Defense almost as good as KG 3 almost as good as Dirk also a pretty good passer. However he did not have a strong mind to begin with, and then weeds just messed him up
I think some of the Sheed love is a little strong on here. While I’d agree, at his best, he is better than Odom at his best, it’s not nearly by as far as some make it out. Odom isn’t an offensive wiz, and not as good as Sheed offensively, but has had some decent offensive seasons, is a better rebounder, and a considerably better passer. Moreover, while Sheed has some fantastic one on one post defense, Odom is probably just as good a weakside defender as Sheed (neither great) and Odom is more versatile defensively. I don’t think Sheed ever averaged 20 for a season. Moreover, I wouldn’t rank him above Pau Gasol. At their bests, maybe you take Sheed. Though Pau season this year, probably his best, I think you’d put up against and as better than any of Sheed’s seasons (but then, playing with one of the best players of all time for the best coach of all time, on a championship caliber team, may imact that; though, alternatively, chick or the egg? Does Pau make the Lakers great or Kobe, Phil and the Lakers make Pau look better…or both!)
