SEATTLE -- Former NBA star Shawn Kemp was arrested early Monday after officers stopped a pickup truck he was in and found what appeared to be mar1juana and cocaine, authorities said. Kemp was being held for investigation of drug possession and is due in court Tuesday, King County Jail spokesman Troy Bacon said. Kemp has not been charged with any crime. The county sheriff's office said the arrest happened in suburban Shoreline after an officer smelled mar1juana while talking to two men in a pickup. The officer found what appeared to be a small amount of cocaine, about 60 grams of mar1juana and a semiautomatic pistol, the sheriff's office added. Kemp, a five-time All-Star, was drafted by Seattle in 1989 and played for the SuperSonics until 1997 when he was traded to Cleveland in a deal that brought Vin Baker to Seattle from Milwaukee. The power forward also played for Portland and Orlando before ending his career in 2003. He led the Sonics with 23.3 points and 10 rebounds a game in the 1996 NBA Finals, when Seattle lost to the Chicago Bulls in six games.
He's the first one to come give a hug to Dream after that dreadful 1993 exit... watch Clutch City. I always had respect for him until I found out he had kids spread all over the nation...
4 years ago he was regulated to playing pick up games at my high school gym. At the time Moses Malone looked to be in better shape. Kemp was having a hard time doing anything. Sad indeed...
i didn't realize vin baker was part of the shawn kemp trade. talk about a cursed trade. at least i guess you could say it was even.
Remember when he punched Kevin Willis in a Sonics/Rockets playoff game and wasn't even suspended after the NBA reviewed the tape of what Willis was doing to him during the game? Made the refs look like idiots.
The pickup truck was rushed to a nearby hospital and is in stable but serious condition. Kemp apparently bought the drugs by raiding the piggy banks of his 700 children.
