More proof of where Bush's advisors get their ideas.

Way to go Sharon. Trying to get his wish that instead of Israel alone against world opinion he can be joined by the US.

It is time for the US to start standing up against Israel. Alienating most of the world to support the hardliners of Israel like Sharon is not the best policy for America.

Sharon says U.S. should also disarm Iran, Libya
    and Syria

    By Aluf Benn

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said yesterday that Iran, Libya and Syria should be stripped of weapons of mass destruction after Iraq. "These are irresponsible states, which must be disarmed of weapons mass destruction, and a successful American move in Iraq as a model will make that easier to achieve," Sharon said to a visiting delegation of American congressmen.

Sharon told the congressmen that Israel was not involved in the war with Iraq "but the American action is of vital importance."

In a meeting with U.S. Undersecretary of State John Bolton yesterday, Sharon said that Israel was concerned about the security threat posed by Iran, and stressed that it was important to deal with Iran even while American attention was focused on Iraq.

Bolton said in meetings with Israeli officials that he had no doubt America would attack Iraq, and that it would be necessary thereafter to deal with threats from Syria, Iran and North Korea.

Bolton, who is undersecretary for arms control and international security, is in Israel for meetings on preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Bolton said Syria would get a chance to prove it was behaving in a way worthy of the international community and that dealing with North Korea had not been pushed aside, but postponed.

Bolton said the United States was striving to get a new UN Security Council resolution regarding Iraq and that the result of the vote would affect the U.S.'s relations with Western Europe and Russia, after the war in Iraq.

Bolton also met with Foreign Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Housing and Construction Minister Natan Sharansky.

Sharansky warned Bolton that the Quartet's (U.S., UN, European Union and Russia) plan for the Israelis and Palestinians deviated from President Bush's vision

Well at least you didn't explicitly call me anti-semitic. :)

Again I support the state of Israel in its pre 1967 borders, like the Arab states and the countries of the world have agreed to. Conquering Syria, Iran and Libya aren't part of it as far as I'm concerned.

Let Sharon attack Iran, and Syria and Libya if he wants to.

To quote a recent article from Molly Ivins:

The problem with criticizing Israel is that we've gotten to this sorry pass where pointing out the most stupid and repellent aspects of that country's policy is considered tantamount to endorsing The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Well, screw that. Israelis themselves have terrific and ferocious political debates about what they're doing: We get at least as much leeway

I'm sorry if you get upset, but to actually protect American citizens we need to start debating our oversupport for Sharon's Israell, even when unpleasantly confronted by name callers like you.

Glynch...suppose Israel retreated to it's pre-1967 borders, Jersusalem became an international city, a Palestinian state was formed in the West Bank, yet terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians continued. What would you suggest then?

I suppose after the U.S. goes in and "takes care of" the rest of the Arab world, they'll go and take Israel's WMDs?

No, because Israel is not a brutal dictatorship that supports terrorism.

    Good question.

It would have to be treated as a law enforecement problem. Arrest the perpetrators. Collective punishment, destroying the Palestinian government etc., blowing up relative's houses, locking down the entire population won't help.

I would suggest a fence or secure border between the two states with UN peacekeepers backed up by perhaps Chinese, Russian , US ,Egyptian and other Arab forces to show that since Israel has done its part the entire world expects the Palestinians to do their part.

Once the Palestinians have a real state, not controlled by Israel, and a decent standard of living, they will have a lot to lose if they continue with the violence. One of the problems with the current Israeli policies is that it is all stick and no carrot.

If the new Palestinian state continues with the violence toward Israel, I believe that you will reach the point where they will be criticized by the rest of the Arab world, as well as people like me. It might even take awhile, but the Palestinians will get the message. The current policies of Sharon backed by the Bush administration only postpone any solutions.

So you don't have a problem with Isreal telling us what to do, but you do have a problem with the U.N. telling us what to do.

It's got nothing to do with Israel "telling us what to do." I just like the idea.

But some people reached that point after Arafat built a terrorist infrastructure during the Oslo agreements. Sharon's policies are making it clear that terrorism will not work and that Israel won't leave. That being said, Israel, being a democracy with more to gain from peace than war, will negotiate another agreement if they think it is safe to do so. But Arafat has always had an interest in continuing the terrorism, it keeps him popular and in power. I agree with Bush that he has to go. A fence or wall is also a good idea.

Those terrible Israelis don't want Murderous Dictators to have WMD?

We need to have a "peace" march in defense of the Fanatical Islamists who run Iran, and the murderous thugs who run Syria and Libya.

Mr. Clutch, a real secure, not Israel controlled,Palestinian state is an absolute necessity to see any real progress. Pseudo steps, like the quasi permanent half- state of the Palestinian Authority, Sharon just destroyed, while settlement building advances, just won't cut it. It did not give the Palestinians enough hope to stop the violence and therebye provide much security benefits for Israel.

It is a diificult situation, but Israel will see no lasting progress in their attempt to control the violence until the Palestinians are set free. I do understand how many Israelis are too scared to think straight ( look at the duct tape craze of last week here).
