http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/4678237.html Pulling back As much as Rockets center Yao Ming is frustrated when he believes he is fouled and does not get a call, Heat center Shaquille O'Neal believes he is called for fouls he does not commit on the other end. But O'Neal said he has a solution. He said he'll stop playing all that defense he apparently has been playing. "I told myself a long time ago when it gets like this, I'm just going to stop playing defense," O'Neal said. "Every time I touch somebody, (referees) are going to call something. So I have to go back to my mantra. Just stand there." No word yet on whether Jeff Van Gundy will suggest that solution for Yao.
well if you get to the spot which you are supposed to be on defense and just stand there, you still take up space under the basket. if you're a big 7 footer. i'd be happy if yao stayed on his feet with his hands up. just get to where you are supposed to be and don't leave your feet.
The difference is folks don't challenge Shaq as much. There is no I'm gonna try to dunk on Shaq. You know that hard foul is coming. Remember last years elbow that kept Dirk outside the lane for the remainder of the Finals?
Word. Yao is yet to learn throwing around those 'inadvertent' elbows that Deke has excelled at. Shaq is also pretty good at 'timing' that physical foul to send a message to the opposition, and so far it has worked well for him.
Great idea. I suggested Yao learning Deke's elbow's of fury in a thread a while ago, and I got demoted to a rookie for that. Either that, or it's the remark about E. Euros being around dangerous plays. I wasn't trying to say they are dirty, but just that the go all out on every play. So my real question is, how can I get back my member status??????????????
I think I remember Rodman with a similar complaint years ago, and then he actually went out and and played defense with both hands behind his head to show his displeasure when getting called for a foul. That was funny. I don't think Shaq would go so far, but you never know...
