Shaq was on ESPN's Dan Patrick show this afternoon. Patrick brought up Yao. Shaq said he heard that Yao had been bringin up his name a lot. Shaq then said, "be careful what you wish for.". He went on to say, "Say my name once, that's ok. Say my name twice, la, la, la. Say my name three times and I get upset." It sounded as if he were having fun with the whole situation but should still be an interesting matchup when they do finally meet. os
It seems to me that Ming has beem talking about Shaq out of respect and says he looks forward to learning from Shaq, much the same way that Shaq learned from Hakeem. I am sure that Shaq is just having fun with it.
Wednesday, September 4 O'Neal unsure if he'll have surgery on Sept. 11 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services Shaquille O'Neal is not certain his toe surgery will happen Sept. 11 as scheduled because of an issue with his liver, the Los Angeles Lakers' center said Wednesday on The Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio. O'Neal, who played last season using a combination of medication, orthotics and other treatments to ease the pain in his arthritic big toe, told Patrick he would undergo tests on the liver Monday before determining the next step. He did not elaborate beyond that. According to several reports in the last few days, O'Neal had decided to have a cheilectomy, which involves removing bone spurs in the joint that have caused pain and restricted his motion in his toe. Despite the combination of treatment he employed last season, but none of the methods were effective. "The pain became so bad that I think I relied on (painkiller) too much," O'Neal told Fox Sports Net last week. "Sometimes if I didn't take it, I didn't feel well and I didn't play well, and I would have to rely on the painkillers for me to play well." The surgery, when it does happen, will be performed at UCLA by Dr. Robert Mohr, chief of the Division of Podiatric Surgery, according to Patricia Schneck, a spokeswoman for O'Neal's agent, Perry Rogers. Rogers has said O'Neal's recovery could take six weeks. The Lakers begin defense of their third straight NBA title on Oct. 29. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
TheFreak, Hopefully for you, Shaq extends the same policy of three-strikes-your-out to people that insult him. If not, perhaps you can leave your post count to me in your will. I'm a Yao Fan(atic), but I do not look forward, nor should he, to the first time that he is responsible for going at Shaq in the low post. That will be UGLY!!!
be careful Ming!...I'm not talking who wins in statistics either...Shaq can really hurt someone if he wants to...
Sounds like the Mourning situation finally has some of these guys freaked about taking too many drugs. Imagine that...its not healthy. Of course he's probably saying all this while sipping on his creatine shake.
All this talk is about THUG Mentality in the'Game' of Basketball.Let us hope it doesn't happen but if it does, lets insist that Shaq be banned from the Game, for a premeditated physical attack.
But Shaq does not swing with a normal punching technique with his punches. When he swung at Brad Miller, it was more of the overhead- up to down technique and he still missed the husky Brad Miller. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen in my many years on this earth!
Shaq doesn't hold back from anybody as it is. Ming definitely might get beaten up by Shaq, but it will be no different from when he beat up Vlade, Dikembe, or any other center in the NBA for that matter. That's just the way Shaq plays. I don't think he's talking about taking any cheap shots...just his normal rough play.
Funnier than Camby taking out Van Gundy? Or LJ vs. Zo? or Shaq vs. CB4? Or Kobe vs. Reggie? Or Chris Childs sucker punching Kobe? Or Kermit Wash...wait that wasn't funny.
I'd like to know more about that Shaq's liver problem. Mourning's problem was linked to anti-inflamatories. I wonder if Shaq is having the same problem?
What the flip are you talking about Yetti. THUG mentality my a$$. Players from the early days in every sport where more likely to be thugs on the court/field than today. What do you mean by thug anyway? Literaly a thug, or are you saying that because so many of these guys come from the THUG/Hip Hop culture, they are automatically bad people with only malicious intents on their minds during a game? I'm gonna go ahead and categorize you to see how you like it... You fall into the group of whiners in here who want to baby Yao. Guys like you are always saying that any player who says he's going to rough Yao up should be suspended.
