On the Lakers sight Shaq is weighed in at 338 lbs but I think he is alot heavier then that. Anyone knows exactly how much he weighs now? Also what is the ideal weight for Yao to be in to still keep his quickness and keep Shaq from bullying him in the paint?
I think when Ming gets professional weight training that he will get a bit higher on his jump and wont lose that much of his quickness. They have ppl that specialize and do that for a living over here. Unlike ppl in China I dont think are quite as good in that department yet. But obviously he cant gain too much weight without losing quickness. But he will be able to gain some. Which is a very good thing.
I don't think Yao should gain too much weight because it could cause future problems with his knees or feet. Look at Shaq struggling with his big toe, and other big men like Smits and Ilgauskas struggling with foot problems throughout their careers. These problems happen too often with big men. Keep the weight down and these problems are less likely to occur. And since the Lakers are struggling right now the Rockets don't have to worry about Shaq anyways.
I don't want Yao to carry much more weight than he has now. Because the taller you are, the more likely you are to get knee and joint injuries. And too much weight would increase the likelihood of joint injuries for Yao.
