Shaq: Stoudemire Is The Best Big In NBA
    February 23, 2008 - 11:42 am

    The Boston Globe -
After handing the Celtics their third straight loss on Friday night Shaquille O'Neal had this to say about one of his new Phoenix teammates, according to the Boston Globe.

"Amare Stoudemire is the best big man in the game right now -- period, bar none," O'Neal said. "I didn't know he was that good. But talking to him and watching him play, he's the best big man in the game at 25, and I mean that. I'm not just saying that to pump him up." [READ]

Haha I rather take Yao or Dwight Howard anyday!

LOL that's typical Shaq public relationship. Asking who's the best guard, it's Kobe when he's a Laker; it's Wade when he's in Miami; and it's Nash when he is in Suns. I really don't take his words seriously.

Actually, Amare looks much better as a PF next to Shaq than he did as a C next to Shawn Marion or Boris Diaw. His lack of strength in the post isn't exposed as much defensively. He's been very impressive in the last 2 games.

Which might make Suns more dangerous for Rockets. Now Amare can exploit the PF mismatch while Yao won't be able to dominate at the C position.

if you put dwight howard or yao ming next shaq with steve nash in the backcourt you'd get similar if not better results. amare is very good but i'd take the other 2 way before him.

what do you expect shaq to say?

If he was in Boston, he would say KG is the best bigman.

If shaq was in san antonio, he would say duncan was the best bigman.

except for not being able to co-exist with kobe, Shaq has a pretty good EQ.

It's pretty much gotten to the point where anything Shaq says is pure BS opinion or not. But what else is he supposed to say about a teammate.

I don't agree with that. Amare is far, far better in the high post than Yao or Dwight. Those two wouldn't complement Shaq nearly as well.

Gotta admit, Amare is good. However he's goon at the 4 alongside a strong C. Amare is good alongside Shaq cus his natural position is at the 4, not 5.

You can't compare who'd be better at the 4 with Yao cus well, Yao's a C. Putting Yao with Shaq.. is as useless as having MJ and SF3 at the 1,2.

Put Amare vs Yao on the 5 and Yao would regularly burn him on a nightly basis. Sorry Shaq, you're not fooling anyone.

Like we're all blinded and got to listen someone who praises his own teammate.

It's normal. Didn't Yao at some point say that Francis is the best guard in the NBA?

There is nothing wrong about praising your teammate. What do you expect Shaq to say? Amare is one-dimensional and that's why they got me here? ;)

So was it pure BS when he said, "The best player on the low block is either Yao or Tim Duncan." ?

It really doesn't matter how well Amare plays on one end of the court, his defense is non-existant save a few weakside shot blocks a game. Very overrated.
