This just in: EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- As expected, the three-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers placed center Shaquille O'Neal and forward Mark Madsen on the injured list Monday. O'Neal, recovering from surgery on his arthritic right big toe, and Madsen, who has a strained left hamstring, must miss a minimum of five games. It's likely O'Neal, the MVP of the last three NBA Finals, will miss more than five games. He's eligible to make his season debut Nov. 7 at Boston, and the Lakers play at Washington the following night before returning home to play Atlanta on Nov. 12 and Golden State on Nov. 15.
This is a senseless question. Shaq is not afraid of anyone. A bigger question should be whether his health problems will worsen. This may be the early sign of his failing health. I hope Yao get the chance to play Shaq asap. This challenge will bring Yao to another level.

I could'nt agree more. I don't care what kind of giant he is. He is only made of flesh and bone. To stay healthy and strong in NBA, a balance of healthy diet and exercise are the most important. In his age now, his massive size and weight may cause counter effect. And after years of banging and beating, his body starts taking toll.

A young Shaq can't stop Hakeem, so I bet an old Shaq after 3 years can stop Yao either, plus I guess Yao has a better chance to surpass Hakeem as long as he has Francis by his side.
The Laker's won't play Rockets untill their 10th game... so how's this affect the Rockets? it's not like we are playing the Lakers in the first 5 games. By the time Rockets play the Lakers shaq will be there... so what's the purpose of this thread???

I do understand why Shaq waited so long to have the Surgery. Most the OFF Season was Gone B4 he went under the Knife. Was this his out for a longer Vacation? Can anyone enlighten me?

They will put Horry on Yao Ming, dont you think and leave Shaq to guard the basket! Yao Ming can shoot his 15ft. jumper over Horry all game long.On defence its going to take TWO Rockets to defend Shaq. Collier /Cato with the body and Yao Ming over the top to block the shot!
